lol. The pattern is

2 great games = generational, elite talent

2 shit games = toxic wanker, he’s shit, play one of the U8’s or spend 200m on a replacement everyone pretends they’ve “Scouted” from age of 3.

has he had 2 great games?

his had good moments in every game just not been involved or enough of a threat the whole game / final third could have done more.

its to early to write him off and lets believe he would have been eased in if it was not for injuries, he needs time to settle and find his feet!

i think having Ivan the Great would have helped him a lot in training, its a shame his injured with so many young players i wouldn't mind keeping Persic for another season around a player who is really all about the final third!

Admittedly this is a stupid point, but if we had bought him for 25m then I'd be fine. It's just 40m seems quite expensive right now.

I also think him and Son are too similar and having both in the team is asking the rest of our already knackered and depleted players to work harder. Of course, we have no choice right now but to have both I feel we need a fully firing midfield.

I like him. I think given time he'll prove to be a good signing. He was injured early on, had zero pre-season and has been thrusted into a main spot due to injuries.

Can we stop writing players off so quickly?

This is a football forum. Is it not possible to express an opinion on a player ?

If you feel its too early to say , then say that. That view is not a fact.

Nor is the opposite, these are all opinions, it's a football forum .

It is, and yep its all about opinions.

But there are some who are pretty much writing him off.

And this is a fact, he hasnt played anywhere near enough to be written enough.

I see more impatience in here than balanced opinions.

Oh for sure it's too early - surely no-one would be making any judgments either way at this stage.

I suspect that he is a player that has suffered most from Maddison being out injured.
Johnson isn't a player that is very good at progressing the ball through a crowded defence or beating his man down the wing so he relies heavily on the playmakers putting him through and using his pace to get clear of defenders for shooting/passing. Without the playmakers he will suffer because he'll be expected to creat his own chances to a certain extent which he's not very good at at the moment.

I suspect this is a pertinent point and we'd have probably seen him used more as an impact sub this season, if we hadn't had the injuries we've had. As it is, he's been thrown in at the deep end - and look at some of our fans go... 🥴

He’s fine, bit of patcience needed.

That being said he had a poor game against Brighton, hope he steps it up against Bournemouth, I fancy him to get a goal.

Most people are not writing him off, just making a critique of him., which they are entitled to do. He has had a couple of good moments here and there in games, but looks tentative going into tackles, fails to track back enough and makes little use of his pace. However, as others have noted, he is young, new to the club and the team is suffering with so many injuries to our star players all of which has made it difficult for Johnson.

I have no idea at all if he is going to be a good signing, but he needs more time and I hope that he justifies his price tag in due course.

He actually reminds me of how Son was when he first arrived. It may take a little while for him to properly settle, and with a settled team. We’ve had so many players in and out this season, it’s been a bit crazy. I think he’s probably the long term Son replacement, they have very similar traits.

You only need to watch him to see there's a very good player in there despite the stats. I wasn't keen on him when we brought him in but the more I watch him the more I'm convinced he has the individual skillset's required, he just needs to start putting them together.

At his age that's not uncommon, especially when moving to a new team and being asked to play in a very different way. I'd go as far as to say that attributes wise he's probably the best suited to how Ange wants his wide players to play. Just needs time, coaching and a bit of confidence imo.

Totally agree... at Forest is was all about his pace and direct approach... but he will learn much more under Ange and he has the attributes to grow into a top Premiership player under Ange... 👍 ... Ange's style is a bit more complex. But Johnson is equipped for it already, he just needs some adjusting.

He is similar to Jermaine Jenas.

Both are well mannered, nice looking lads from Nottingham, but got criticised for a lack of killer instinct and failing to reach their potential.

He’s 22 for goodness sake - he should be years away from fulfilling his potential!

I like him. I’m excited about how good he could become. I don’t understand the recent pile on personally.

Our struggling new forward continues his goal involvement record of 1 every 2 games (per 90 minutes).

Yes, his overall game still needs work but his threat in behind is a goal guarantee in the long run.

Maddison coming back soon will only unlock him further.
