This is what bugs me - not sure if it's a modern phenomenon or whether it's always been there but social media has made it more prominent but the sheer venom against some players - f#cking brutal.

There was many players back in the 70’ & 80’s that are so lucky social media wasn’t in force:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The only time I can say I’ve wanted a player gone ASAP was Ghally? Throwing his shirt to the ground was disrespectful

I'd take that Argentine international RB. Hes injured at the moment but he looks quality on the ball and is improving defensively all the time. What's his name again?

After 3 games? We are supposedly title chasing I'd rather buy a decent RB and if anyone else is good enough to challenge then so he it, I'd rather not hinge it all on youth or makeshift RB's

There is a right back playing in La Liga who got the assist for the only goal in his first game for a new team this weekend.
Maybe we could look at him.

Who would have thought at beginning of window that the player from our squad last season most likely to win something this season would be the one that was basically hounded out from the club.

Definitely. Actually I should have put some context to that - I meant that people seem so quick to.cast a definitive judgment on players after maybe two or three games. Some of the posts I read are pretty brutal.

They confirmed week's ago that he wouldn't sign after he said he would.

Ohh missed that, sad times as he makes us tick, all ways rated him when other friends haven't. Really think we will miss him, just hope GLC and the rest can match him or even raise the bar.

I get your point but for me that's short-sighted.

It's putting the needs of this season above that of many seasons to come.

If we sell now we have an Eriksen hole but in 4 months the money to fill it (or another position of weakness).

If we let him go on a free we have an Eriksen hole and no direct money to replace him.

Just doesn't make sense to me. He could get injured tomorrow and we'd be without him for 4 months anyway.

It depends on the offer though. If it was a low-ball 20 million I'd keep him.
I take your point too, but I don't believe the options are quite as mutually exclusive as your post suggests: I think we have the money to bring in another creative or forward player even if Eriksen goes on a free next year.

It's stonewall confirmed that we were still trying for Dybala despite already having agreed a deal for Lo Celso at the end of the English transfer window. IMO that means we had money for a Dybala bid without absolutely having to sell Eriksen this summer, because if (as I suspect will be the case) Eriksen makes his mind up to play out his contract and go on a Bosman next summer there's nothing that anyone at Spurs - including Levy - could have done to force him to leave this summer for a fee.

Therefore, if we had cash for Dybala without any guarantee of an Eriksen sale to recoup some spend this summer, we will still have that Dybala cash for a creative/forward player next summer even if Eriksen goes on a free. Granted, we'd have more money to play with and potentially strengthen other areas of the squad if Eriksen were to be sold for a transfer fee, but this is where the shades of grey and opinion come in. Personally, I'm of the opinion that we as a club lean a smidge too much towards the "plan for next season" side of the scale at the expense of the focussing resources on the current season (albeit not massively so; I still recognise that we have to plan for the future as well as the present) and hence if Eriksen is to go I'd prefer him to stay this season and leave on a free next summer rather than getting money for him now and not having him available for the 2019/20 campaign.

It's a balance; I don't think that you don't make a valid point, I'd just be more comfortable with the balance of our priorities weighted very slightly more towards the present, but only a touch.

will have to agree to disagree. if Aurier can show his form from last season and not pick up any injuries, then him and KWP will be good enough till next summer and then review it

So it's still a pressing matter then?

there was the fact we went for Dybala, but you also have to take into account we took Lo Celso on loan instead of buying straight away. if we had got Dybala Levy would of most probably accepted a low offer (he still might) or he will stick to his fee and we will either see Eriksen stay and go for free, or he just might sign a contract (which is looking doubtful). the big question will be if he doesn't sign 1, will Poch play him as often. if he does I would expect Eriksen to give a performance, but I wouldn't expect him to get stuck in, he hasn't that in his locker, just like Hoddle rarely ever did.

the biggest problem about him going free, is we also have 2 others that might be going free. we also will have to commit to Lo Celso next summer.

Sell Eriksen to Juve in Jan window and buy Dybala then. Simples ... if I was in charge, ehem ehem.
You think eriksen is going to leave in jan and give up the massive signing on fee and silly wages he’s going to get by leaving on a free 6 months later, the club fucked up by letting him get into last year of his contract and we’re going to pay the full price of that now.

True, but we also got a reward of a CL final and a CL qualification by doing that.

That goal Eriksen scored against Brighton at home late April got us champions league qualification again.

Without those 3 points (and benefit of hindsight) the Woolwich would have finished above us. To me, that goal was worth 60m alone.

Iam not disagreeing mate as it’s not my money so I don’t really care, I would rather another year of the best eriksen this season aswell. Just surprised levy has left us in this position with potentially eriksen, toby, jan all leaving at end of the season for not a single penny.

With the Dybala situation,I think Levy was still hoping for Eriksen to sign or get money for him while he was negotiating re Dybala. The image rights was a legitimate situation but also a ready made excuse for not buying him.
Lo Celso was a guarantee. He was going to get someone for sure and the loan for Lo Celso I think was there also for two reasons,it filled a creative space and also if Eriksen going and Dybala coming,Levy then could assess what he needed up to the end of the Lo Celso loan.He bought flexibility. With Dele and Lamela and Ndombele we would not get enough creativity. Lo Celso added to that pie and maybe Dybala would have really replaced Eriksen and then of Lo Celso,Lamela and Dele we could maybe later have just picked 2 and strengthened another position

Real Madrid are 100% going to come in for him at the final hour with a low ball offer which Levy will be forced to accept. I've been saying it all summer.

They are playing Levy at his own game. Eriksen knows it, I'm sure he has been told by Madrid what the plan is. Will explain why Eriksen looks completely unmotivated at the moment, even more so than he did last season.
