Yeah completely agree. I don't think it's a coincidence that our defensive solidity in the league tailed off right around the time we stopped playing with a DM. Dier probably isn't the answer long term and has a lot of flaws to his game, but I think we're crying out for someone in that position - either a proper destroyer who can just lay the ball to Ndombele/Winks, or someone more in the mould of Fernandinho or Rodri who is a big tough bastard that also knows how to play. Preferably the latter.

This season I think we'll have a lot of teething problems trying to balance the midfield, but at least in Ndombele and Lo Celso we have 2 players who are technically sound that also don't mind footing a foot in. As you said, hopefully a midfield 3 of them + Winks will give us just enough bite against attacking teams, while we can play a pivot against the more defensive ones.

If we could get Dier back to playing his DM/CB hybrid role I think it could be a big +, especially if Sessegnon gets a run at LB. Pushing the FBs up and having Ndombele and Lo Celso in the middle would be a pretty aggressive formation.

Scored two penalties tonight. I still don’t want him anywhere near taking ours

And 1 assist (Could also argue 2 assist) and a lot of chances created.

Eriksen looked like Messi against Gibraltar - but ok who wouldn't against some school teachers, dentist and landlords :cautious:

Aagghh....I’m just gonna say it. He will leave us on a free after this season...and I’m gonna really miss him when he does. Will be 7 years service from a sublime talent. In modern football terms that’s very loyal. Agreed last season was not great, and seems directly linked to the team’s general drop in performance levels and quality. So I’ll just try and enjoy these final months of watching CE and be pleased he was part of our Spurs family.

It's amazing that Eriksen has been selected as one of the best 15 midfielders in the world, but many on here think that he had a bad season. Pogba has been included on the list as well and lots of people would say that he didn't have a very good season. I guess it shows how subjective watching football is - or maybe it's because our fans see him play more often than the people voting:

I hope Eriksen has a season like Modric's last, which was probably his standout year for us.

On a side note, I fail to see how two posts specifically about the player whose thread we're in could ever be deemed 'spam'...
Because there is a fundamental flaw in your logic, which I pointed out in the post  But here it is again:

Your entire argument is based on this idea that he needs to be persuaded to leave, when in actual fact he's the one trying to leave. Even if we were prepared to offload him in the summer, it's only as a result of him expressing his desire to leave anyway, so we're just cutting our losses so to speak.

Could've sold him to who? By all accounts he doesn't want to leave purely to get more money or whatever, he wants to leave because he has the ambition to play for Real Madrid. He was presumably under the impression that they were about to come in for him but then for whatever reason never did.

I always find it strange how so many pundits say "One of the best players in Europe" when like 99% of the best players in the world play here. One of the best players in Europe = one of the best players in the world.

Because the poster who spammed them was being a bit petulant that the other poster didn’t share their views...

Kinda sad and unnecessary really.

I think its more to do with the fact that the people who put these lists together just pick big games, irrelevant of how they are playing.

The amount of Barca and Madrid players is laughable considering how the two of them (particularly Real) performed last season. I mean the whole Real defence?? haha come on

A lot of these clubs paying massive wages because they have signed said player on a Bosman end up with big regrets .
Sanches at Man unt a prime example and its not a road Levy would go down and may I suggest most fans of spurs would back this stance . There are quite a few players that have become a burden because they are earning so much they are impossible to move on and because they are in a comfort zone regard vast wages there play has suffered as the hunger and desire to some extent has been removed . Eriksen should be offered the going rate for a class player albeit not world class and if he gives the club a knock back so be it and bye bye Christian . West Ham got lucky with Arnautavic otherwise they would have been stuck with an overpaid unhappy player that nobody wanted to pay what West Ham were paying but luckily the Chinese came in and bailed them out.
Their are quite a few players on high wages with very little playing time but quite happy to not play but collect their large pay check.

100% agree mate.

I want CE to stay and think a wage close to Sir Harry is fine and fair (particularly as this is Eriksen's last big contract).
BUT if he wants to do a Ramsey, so be it, he will go with my gratitude. 2013-2020 for a fee of 11 million pounds (when we got 86 for Bale) and only one wage increase (well below market) - and seriously consistent performances....it has been terrific for the club and us fans. If he wants to do something different (as long as he doesn't go to Manchester or another part of London), he goes with my thanks. And Levy, big picture, should be happy.

I know everyone mentions Ramsey’s wages, but wasn’t Rabiot signed for very reasonable wages? I thought I saw 175k or something like that.
