Any competent DM at all would improve us instantly. I don’t know anything about Vecino but if he is truly “bang average” it would represent a significant upgrade over Dier and Wanyama.

Perhaps bring him in as a short-term stopgap, loan Skipp out for the next 18 months to get experience and see if he’s truly got what it takes, and bring in a young DM such as Soumare, Florentino, or Camavinga in the summer to rotate with Vecino next season. Then in summer 2022 bring Skipp back into the fold and move Vecino on.

We desperately need to begin to address the DM situation which has been left to languish for years now, and a veteran journeyman may help paper over the cracks until we can get the long term options sorted.

Would be good to get a midfielder in return. Especially if he’s one we’ve liked the look of before.

If we want a player from inter in return get brozovic plus cash. He's exactly what we need

Inter are competing for the title. Brozovic has played every minute of the season apart from a one game ban. They're not letting their first choice midfielder go in Jan. This shouldn't need explaining surely?

Vecino is an amazing player. Super active, high energy, can hold down the midfield on his own while others move the ball forward. No nonsense, rugged type. Would be perfect to meet our needs. Or he could be terrible, he’s older and I’ve never watched him play.

Vecino could be the screening CM in a 3, with higher tempo players like Ndombele and Lo Celso flanking him in a 433... just a thought. Matic but with more legs.

Dier was hardly a revelation for us when we were competing for the title.

He was functional and did what we needed him to do. Nothing spectacular, just plug the gaps, screen the defence and move the ball on.

Dier has regressed so much so that he can't even do some of these basics anymore.

Also, at least Vecino is capable of shifting the ball on to his other foot and moving forward. Dier always comes unstuck cause he can't progress with the ball and is easily pressed.

Vecino would be an upgrade, nothing spectacular, but could be one of those simple tactical signings.

Like others have said Vecino short term, Soumare long term.

Bit like Carrick then as he is a simple player!

There is something i dont get.
If the club knows he wont be signing a contract he shouldnt be anywhere near the starting 11.
That would give him an incentive to get a transfer this window.

The Eriksen-saga seems to end sad both for club and player.

Hello everyone, Inter fan here in peace.

There seems to be some misconceptions about Vecino.

Vecino is a very particularly attack-minded CM with good athleticism but mediocre ball skills. He can be incredibly useful yet clumsy and frustrating at the same time.

Vecino is extremely direct and rapid in transitioning play into attack. Essentially, Vecino will get into good positions in between lines to receive a pass, then try to play it forward straight away, and run to join the attack. Vecino's movement and timing is excellent in these phases. This is his greatest strength and the reason every Inter coach appreciates him.

He excels at running forward into space with the ball and he's good in the air. Most importantly, he has a knack for scoring decisive goals, such as the game winner against Spurs last season, and the goal against Lazio in the final game of 2017-18 which put Inter into the Champions League.

He covers a lot of ground and his distance covered is up there with Brozovic (who runs 12.5km per game). Most of that running however, is in attacking shifts and covering for wide players pushing up. Vecino is unequivocally NOT a DM of any kind. He isn't someone who makes a midfield stronger defensively - unlike Barella for example.

He's very divisive among Inter fans. Many fans hate him for his clumsiness and lack of technique, others appreciate him for his big game goals and directness. On good days, he injects directness and pace to a teams attack with his style of play. However, on bad days he will turn the ball over incessantly.

Personally, I find him to be a great impact sub and I'd love to keep him as an attacking option off the bench. I wouldn't sell him for anything under €20M.

If he does go to Tottenham, I feel his style is suited to the EPL anyway. He certainly doesn't lack any stamina or speed. And from what I've seen of Mourinho's Spurs, you guys could really use a physical CM to make late runs into the box, attack lay-offs from Kane and provide another aerial threat in the box. etc

With Vecino, it's all about how and when to use him. For example, he's never going to unlock a tight defense with finesse and skill a la David Silva. I suspect Mourinho will really appreciate his attacking and physical skill set. If he can use Vecino well, I think he will acheive the same cult hero status he has at Inter.

Vecino seems like a replacement for Sissoko, hope it's only a loan if true, we need to start getting rid of deadwood not stockpile it.

Sounds more like cover for Sissoko in that case. Thanks for the info.

A loan for this guy to make up the numbers with Eriksen finally off our books wouldn’t be a bad deal would it?
