All you can hope really is watching from the sidelines and seeing us drop points like this frustrates him enough to consider whether the needless aggression he showed vs Chelsea is worth it going forward, he was doing superbly without it all season. Hopefully he has learnt from it and masters that fine line.

I don't think it's necessarily the same situation where he has been too aggressive and taken a player out. That side of his game has been improved. I think the issue is that his challenge against Chelsea is now a red with var involvement. These tackles that essentially players got away with in the past are going to have to be eliminated. So I really hope it sinks in with him now that these dark arts are not going to work with var. What he did essentially is like when a boxer throws a hook and follows with the elbow. It's just now being called back.
Crazy how long this suspension feels though. By the time he returns he'll have been out over a month. It's good he kept sharp with Argentina.

One potential silverlining of the red card is that Romero could come back in good physical shape. In the last two seasons he has had hamstring injuries at this time of year, and hopefully a full month without any club games has allowed him to build up his fitness ahead of a busy winter schedule.
It's easy to forget that he has only averaged 24,5 PL games in his first two seasons with us.

Really like the way he's framed this; clearly understands that Romero’s physicality is part of his game, and has shaped him into a top defender, and won't seek to take that away from him. But subtle reminder that when he does over-step the mark, it's the team that suffers. (and us, ffs).
Handled that one very well.

Yea that is a class response. I'm sure if it happens again Ange will for sure have a word and tbh he probably behind closed doors has had a small word with him but for media facing purposes this is the perfect answer and also if Romero is seen as a leader then Ange shouldn't need to have a word, he rightfully doesn't want to change how Romero plays but as you say a subtle reminder that he needs to watch the line and not cross it as then the team suffers, although tbh I still think a straight red for his tackle was harsh and was due to VAR slowing everything down.

For the first goal his defending is piss weak in the build up, and then the second he might well have not been able to do anything but he doesn't even move to try and get back.
Obviously he has to play, but if others had had these moments then they're getting pelters on here, social media clips, etc.

What? The first goal is just so unlucky, he’s blocked the shot which is a shot to nothing it then pinballs off two defenders falling perfectly to Bowen.

What happens before that? We're 2 vs the striker at the back should be no danger, he loses out on a ball he should be dealing with every day of the week, gets completely bullied and then left wrong side by 5ft midget Bowen and allows him to get the ball down, turn and pick a pass into the final third that ultimately ends in a goal, fortunate deflection(s) or not.
If that was a Dier, Davies, Emerson, et al doing that Spurs social media/forums are going in two-footed on them.
The second I'm more disappointed with tbh. He barely moves, throughout phase 1, 2, or 3 of what happens. Quite likely he wouldn't have been able to get on it, maybe just maybe though by phase 3 when the ball comes back off the post he's in a position to pinch it before JWP, or pressures him so much he puts him off, or whatever. If you don't fucking try and run back though then you'll never know. When other players/whipping boys have done that it gets clipped up, or pictorial evidence all over social media, double quick.
As I said, I just found it interesting (ie. complete double standards). All I've seen last night and this morning is muted default "great to have him back", "good game" sentiments and all that. Well to channel my inner Roy Keane... this is a senior player who was disappointing on two goals, if that's good then... well. Plenty of comments post-game bemoaning some of the usual lot (Davies, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Richarlison, etc) and how we'll never win games playing them, if we want top standards and results how about one of your stars/captains just not doing enough on two goals and calling that out.
