I'm still a bit iffy with the timing in terms of leaving us light at CB, but if Ange is cool with it then so be it. One positive after thinking about it, is we can go straight in for a non-HG CB in January as THE priority, right?

Yeah makes more sense than the pittiful bids we were receiving before the deadline.
Not for me. 9M during the window and actually getting replacement in is worth so much more than 15M now.

that 6M could easily be the diff b/t champs league / Europa league / conf league

thats not true though is it he has been a catastrophe at times. He does have some good games but when it gets away from him he spreads panic through the whole team and we have seen it so many times. Poch played a high line and it was still obvious then. The young lads are no more or less likely to cause a mess than he is in fact if anything we know at somepoint he will we don't know that for sure with the younger players.

He's mainly fallen off since we moved to playing low block, which doesn't play to his strengths. I disagree he wasn't good under Poch. Yes he had some bad matches but mainly he was good as a young player coming into a settled team.

He's looked like he would be decent as a squad option under Ange. Yes Dorrington/Phillips might have the ability to play in prem but it's a ridiculous amount of pressure to put on two 18 year olds this early in their careers. If they make mistakes that cost us games it could set back their development massively.

Zero point selling him now with no replacement signed in Summer, terrible decision.

Phillips fine as 4th choice CB but selling Sanchez now means Phillips becomes 3rd choice and either Dier or Dorrington or Davies 4th choices, if Romero or VDV or both get injured or suspended etc bye bye our chances of CL etc.

Its a business not sporting decision as usual, we also don't need the money, its pennies in terms of the fee.

It's slightly odd that Dav played ahead of Phillips against Fulham if he really sees Phillips as his preferred back up..

Why can't we sign a defender is January? Also can Emerson Royal play as a RCB?

*slight conspiracy from me: but maybe Ange was showing that the squad is lacking depth? Waiting for the negative ratings to roll in on this one 👀

It's not always that the player is the "preferred" back-up. It could be simply that the drop-off to Phillips is not great enough to keep Sanchez for the final year of his deal, if there is a willing buyer.

Absolutely criminal we didn’t push through a 3rd CB signing. I just don’t get it. We are so close with Ange and this team. How we would leave ourselves this thin with 100M of Kane dollars in the bank is infuriating.

Especially as it seems we knew he might leave this week. Ange must have faith in some of the kids.

Tin hat ready but I think this is fantastic news. If Ange feels confident that the 18 year olds are good enough then why stunt there growth by keeping deadwood? We’ve been complaining for god knows how long that managers haven’t given a clear pathway for the academy players, we have one that says if your good enough your old enough. It’s how we keep talent like Dorrington, Devine, Donley et Al, show them can make the first team

Before the season kicked off the majority were prepared for a bit of a bumpy ride but advocated giving Ange time to sort things out. As it turns out, we've knocked it out of the park in the first few games which has lifted expectations dramatically. I think Ange is sticking to his guns whereas many supporters are beginning to expect much more than we originally thought. If Ange wants to take a few chances this season with the long term being the priority, I applaud him for that, even though the risks are making me a bit twitchy.

While I don’t mind Dave staying, given we only have 2 competitions left this year and we gotta to take the offer when there’s one, esp. if the 15-ish mil number is close…think the last few outings were good and appreciated him taking the PK even he missed; seems like a good pro at the very least with good attitude and for that, I wish him all the best.

So Emerson will probably be our main backup for both RB and CB now until at least the winter window…

All in all excited to see another clear out to make room for new CBs.

Put him in the shop window and give him more mins in the tank. Shows the selling club ‘trust him’. If he’s stinking up the bench doesn’t give the buyers confidence.

Let’s hope it goes through today then along with Ndombele as they need to register them for the CL by tonight. If they don’t then I suspect they won’t end up there.

The fuck up is not that Sanchez is going, but that another CB wasn't signed. I don't buy the argument that we couldn't have bought a CB because of space, as Sanchez was leaving either now, in Januari or next Summer.

We had all summer to get this sorted ffs

Can't imagine a better time for an 18 year old to make his debut for us. It's a playing ethos without blame as long as you try the right things. And the fans will be right behind them in a way they wouldn't have been had this come during the toxic times of Mourinho or Conte.

And to be honest, if they do lose confidence if they make a mistake then they will never make it at the top level anyway. You only have to watch documentaries on the likes of Michael Jordan to realise that the biggest asset in making it to the very top is the ability to quickly put mistakes behind you.
