He was belting alongside Jan in his first season, when we used to play high pressing, attacking football. Negative, backs to wall defending, scared to make a mistake football will make anyone look shit.
So true. Also why he looked great at Ajax. He was on the halfway line not on his penalty box. The irony being is his attacking passing when he isn't under pressure is actually quite good. He's fed some lovely balls into the box to kane when we've had front foot ball. It's when he's being pressed in his own half he struggles.....and sadly that's pretty much exclusively how he's been used the last few years.

The racial element is a very long bow to draw given the same boo boys have treated players like Harry Winks as bad or worse both in stadium and online.

The booing of Sanchez was despicable behaviour by a boorish and not insignificant minority of our fan base. This isn't new or a surprise.

What I find a bit galling is the likes of TVFTL; Alistair Gold and Extra Inch all pearl clutching over Sanchez when ALL OF THEM contributed to the ridiculous pile on of Emerson Royal earlier this season. Week after week of singling Royal out when he was never any worse than any other Spurs player - but they all had a hard on for Djed Spence. They contribute to the atmosphere then express surprise when others follow their lead.

not true that Winks has been treated as bad or worse. When has he been booed in the way Sanchez or Emerson has? I can't remember the last time this has happened.

Interesting little snippet on the Hometown Glory podcast this week. Charlie is friends with an agent, and the agent mentioned to him that players looking at joining clubs do often take into account how the fans react to players. Of course every team has booed a player at times, but when it's fresh in the memory that players like Davi and Emerson are getting booed regularly by our fans, it will put some players off joining.

yeah right, players look at how many zeros are on the end of their pay cheque before they look at anything else.

You can't remember it because it has never happened. Players like Winks, Dier, and Davies have been scapegoated in recent years but none of them have received the audible abuse that Emerson and Sanchez have.

I'm not saying every fan that feels the need to loudly boo our black players is racist but there is a very clear distinction between how white and black players have been treated here. Failing to recognise this is either naive or at the very worst extremely ignorant.

I don’t agree, the Emerson booing was probably down to the frustration that spence wasn’t getting a go in the team, who is another black player! It’s doesn’t add up. Also Sanchez has been shocking for a long time, dier has been poor but not on Sanchez level, again the booing is a culmination of pent up frustration with the way the whole club is right now, and it got taken out on Sanchez due to how poor he has been and the fact that those booing probably felt that stellini should never have bought him on in the first place, they were probably wanting a chance of system than the 3ATB that nobody wants to see.

I don’t agree with that. I think some fans romanticised and bigged up Spence because Rotal was performing under level and he’s not a wing back.

If we had a RWB performing well, we wouldn’t have cared about whether Spence was getting minutes.

Why the fans booed Royal and Davinson more than Winks I don’t know. But Dier did get a hard time from the fans.

I think it’s hard to put the reason into any box.

That’s my point. The fact that royal wasn’t performing well and we had spence not getting a look in all added to the frustration and let to royal being booed.

Fair point but the vitriol on socials and on here was just as bad and I suspect, if fans had been in stadiums during the latter part of his tenure it might have got as bad on field.

Our fans are just ****s sometimes tbf... It's sad.

Royal was fine. He has limitations but he was perfectly fine. He then became one of our best players when tweaks were made to have him come inside and Kulu stay wide.

Some of our fans are not only ****s but are shit at understanding football too. And many of them have podcasts :shifty:

I never really seen that much a problem with Royal other than he wasn’t what the fans expected him to be a flying full back we are a much worse team without him.

And yet you have Italian ultras harrassing players,Lazio fans being Nazis, sterling joining Chelsea after that incident.

I'm sure players want a nice environment but what they want most is lots of money and playing time.

Play him centrally over Dier?

Surely can’t do any worse.
I honestly can’t for the life of me see where the hell any of these managers have seen world class potential in Dier. He’s like a freight train off the mark, no agility, ponderous on the ball, plays hospital passes to his teammates constantly, gets caught out of position constantly without the pace to correct it. He literally has maybe one trait of a top CB, he’s big, that’s literally it
