Yeah beating low black is hard. A common problem for big teams.
City has a whole team of players who are good at moving the ball around in triangles, and picking the right moment to release a runner.
We don't have that.
Not yet, I agree. But Kulu and Bentancur boosted the football IQ in our first team. Perisic would too. One of our big problems in recent years is players scared of the ball and making poor decisions.

Kulu is so much smarter on the ball than Moura it's scary.

Have we bought Perisic already?
I dont think we would emulate Man City. I think its too lofty a goal. I would be more than satisfied if we get CL next year. Our squad currently is way short of Man City/Liverpool, and slightly worse than CL standard. That's my opinion.

Kulu does have more composure on the ball than Moura. Overall I think he's the better player of the 2, inspite of me being a fan of Moura's. I think his tendency to perform in adversity and willingness to drive at the opposition are qualities that we lack.

That critic of his sounds like a monumental bellend.

Instead of saying "fair enough" he's proven me wrong, hes decided to double down and attack Spurs instead.

and then...

He looks like even more of a tosser when you see old tweets of him head over heels in love with Deki...

How easy would it have been for him to just put his hands up and congratulate Deki for landing in a different league in a different country half way through a season and performing how he's performed? It feels so ****y to shit on a 21 year old for internet points.

Properly weird "ultra" journalism.

Sorry, I feel like I'm massively out of the loop here. How come this fella is taking pops at Kulusevski?

What an arsehole. We should really get him and Matt Law together and see what they can do.

Yup, and you have to look at Liverpool who couldn't score a goal across 3 finals against low blocks. It is just very hard to do if the team defends with their lives and you have a good keeper.

You have to get some luck or one of your players has to produce a moment of world class wonder or the opposition makes a mistake.

Exactly what happened against us with the Diaz deflected shot - they were never going to score otherwise

I think most teams in PL can do a low block well. It takes some organisation, but even a back-line of average defenders can do well if they can get the organisation. This is the main thing I think Conte gave us; got our average back-line defending again. I know this is not a popular opinion, and might not be appropriate here but Romero is the only above-avg defender we have. Dier for example has average ability but a good brain and mentality. Same with Davies. Sanchez is the more interesting one; good athelticism weighed down by lack of composure and technique.

Anyways it is also for the same reason that, despite wing-backs being an obvious place where we need upgrades, my priority (if forced to choose) would still be on the front-line. There can be hiccups but Conte can and will get us defending like a CL-worthy team over a season; this I dont question. However it is in attack that I worry about given what's to come next year.

We have no consistent goals from AMs. Both Lucas and Bergwin are good players but neither have consistent end-product. Kulu will be better undrestood next year so he might not get a smooth ride like he did this season.

Pontus Jansson, Brentford defender and captain in a swedish podcast about Dejans start to his Premier League career:

”He came perfectly in to that trio with Son and Kane”.

”When we played them Lucas Moura was playing and the feeling was, if we’re going to have a chance we need to take the game to his (Lucas) side. He’s not close to the level of Kane and Son, but Dejan has done great… That trio is not easy to handle.”

I said when we signed him and Bentancur they'd be class for us as I watch a ton of Italian football and I was right but btw even I didn't expect Kulu to adapt quite this quickly. He's almost a hybrid of Kane and Son in a way, he has Kane's creativity and build and low hard finishes and he has Son's ability to cut inside and curl one in the top corner, brilliant signings and they really suit the league.

Few snippets from an interview with Dejan in a Swedish newspaper:

“Dejan Kulusevski’s own verdict after four months at the club:

- 10/10. I had fun, felt good, the results went our way and everyone is happy. Everything has been perfect. I have a very good coach, good training sessions, good team mates, smart people. Everyone just wants to win.”

“The chemistry is better with Antonio Conte [compared to Allegri].

- He’s a winner […]. He’s obsessed with winning. He works day and night.”

“I love the club, the fans, and it’s a place I want to be at.”

“It’s important to have fun when you train. It shouldn’t just be a job. Football is the best thing in the world and that’s how it is at Tottenham. It wasn’t so fun at Juventus with a different system and a vision I didn’t like that much during my second year there.”

That’s an especially interesting quote given that Lucas played in the home game when we beat Brentford whereas Kulu played in the away game when we drew.

Yeah a tad disrespectful. I’d imagine if Lucas is still with us he’ll be well up for that game next season
