Massive signing but not in the same bracket as bale status wise. I'd say Klinsmann was the last and arguably only world renowned player we have signed.Rafa vd Vaart surely

He used to be a regular at The Grove in Watford. Just down the road from me. They have a signed shirt in the hallway of one of their bars from him where he calls it his favourite course.A few Tottenham players play at The Centurion Club near Hemel Hempstead, I am sure Bale will join them

Rafa vd Vaart surely
Not even close imo.Ossie and Ricky will always be the biggest surely?
Klinsmann was definitely the last one. And that was arguably bigger than Bale because not only was he out of our league at the time but no-one in England signed players like Klinsmann. That was the start of top foreign players coming to England. It was a very exciting summer to be a Tottenham fan (FA Cup ban and points deduction notwithstanding).
That said, I'm fucking buzzing on Bale. These days you hear about these things long in advance whereas in 1994, I think I only heard about Klinsmann on the day. Downside of that is that I'm 48 hours without sleep and am likely to be another 24 until they get this done and announced.
that as
Why the fuck do we do this to ourselves? I was 15 in 1994. I'm 41 now. I should know better but I've even more bloody excited for Bale than Klinsmann. And excited by a club that's disappointed us too many times to mention.
Signing them was huge at the time, it led the way in English football in terms of bringing in superstars.Ossie and Ricky will always be the biggest surely?
You're 41, I'll forgive you. But Ossie and Villa signing in 78. THAT WAS BIG. that was the start of Foreign players here.
Not even close imo.
When did Regulion fly back to Spain? Wasn't there ITK from inside a Stansted Airport toilet that confirmed his presence via stool sample analysis or something?
Ossie and Ricky will always be the biggest surely?
Those were the days, no internet, no ITK, not even Teletext. Back page spread in my Dad's copy of the London Evening News was the first I knew of it.Ossie and Ricky will always be the biggest surely?
The 31-year old Welsh international owns his own private jet, but it would be expected for Tottenham to organise the players’ transit.
Made it pretty clear that he only wanted to come to us, rejected united for more money and champions league don't see why he would reject all other options now to come to us and then go to one of those clubs next yearIs anyone, who's as pessimistic as me, feels that a one-year loan is really bad for us?
Worst case scenario: Bale is as awesome as we all want him to be. Loan finishes, back to Madrid paying 600k a week. We say, we want him permanently!" They say, "see how good he is! You can have him for 600k p/w!" We say, "we can't afford that." Bale's agent says, "Thanks for shop windowing my client, he's going to Utd/City/PSG/Bayern etc. See ya!"
The only way the deal is a long-term benefit is that we have him to for two years, or that we have already negotiated the second year and that it's triggered in the summer if all goes well.
I don't want us to be a stepping stone for Bale to play for someone else, is basically what I'm saying.
