I get why people are anxious, so am I. It’s Spurs, it’s a player we are all in love with and desperate to sign, and as a club we have form in snatching disappointment from the jaws of ecstasy.
However, with any ordinary transfer, getting the first serious media link of the summer on Monday and not quite having it over the line on Saturday is pretty normal, and the reality is that this is an extraordinary transfer at so many levels.
Yes I know Liverpool seemed to run a far smoother process with Thiago, but as good as he is (and he is top class), he was on a fraction of Bale’s salary, had 1 year only left on his deal, and brought with him a comparatively negligible amount of media baggage and branding.
The only reason we’re all as tense as we are is because we have more information available to us than we really ought to have.
