I’d have bale on all free kicks personally.

Either he shoots on his favoured side or at least Kane is then in penalty box to go for any rebounds.

100% agree , didn’t Kane take one ahead of bale when we were chasing the game against west ham ?

Bale couldn’t barely get a look in over Ronaldo I think he’d be classed as a free kick specialist otherwise , but Kane isn’t Ronaldo and bale is better at Kane than free kicks we saw that when bale was last at the club

The Marine one wouldn't go in once in a hundred seasons against PL teams, and the Girona one is very weak organisation with the wall too. Truth is other than Bale we just don't have any good options.

Seems to me like you're understating the difficult of scoring from free-kicks while also overstating the infallibleness of PL keepers. We have Kane, who has superb technique, but hasn't scored one in all competitions since 2014/2015. I'll admit, that isn't entirely fair to say, given that Eriksen and Siggy were probably the designated set pieces takers when played for us. The point I'm trying to make is Kane has had a bevy of opportunities to take free-kicks and has a poor return from them ( perfect technique and all) why not give someone else a try? How about the guy who scored our most recent free-kick in a competitive match? IMO, the best free-kick is the one that goes into the goal or leads to a goal. We don't need to play the hypothetical game when we're already not scoring from direct free-kicks and we haven't tried all possible solutions/options.

Bale needs to be on set pieces, the only two I can remember Kane scoring for us were deflections.

Plus if the keeper saves it and it comes back into the danger area, no player in our squad has the instincts of Kane in the box. He just knows where to be.

Do agree that being more creative on set pieces is something that will change, I can see it becoming more common next season. I am surprised Pep's teams don't do it already.

Bale is like a car with a dodgy choke. It takes a while to get going, and its all a bit hit and miss to start with......until the engine finally gets hot.....and we are cruising.......... and please dont stop!

On the pitch (maybe not off the pitch!) there is a reticence to him. Why start at left back? Tacklings not his game! He then focussed on the left wing mainly supplying crosses, and finally he is getting into scoring goals in the box. There has been an interesting debate on Bale being the key free kick taker. If he did take free kicks, he would need to get a goal quickly before his confidence caves. As long as he keeps getting enough 'strokes' he will move forward and the opposition will fear his kicks

So finally we need to keep that motor cruising sweetly..........not an easy task physically or mentally.

How Bale, Sonny and Kane's fitness is managed over the next two months will be key to whether we finish the season with a flourish or come up empty handed.

For example: With the Fulham game coming up, the temptation is to start Bale again. Then, what about Sunday's game? And he's not the only one who can use rest. Kane and Sonny have been heavily relied upon, and it takes a toll.

We are seeing this throughout the league, so I know our situation isn't unique. It greatly angers me, that the health and future careers of PL players has been put at risk, by a minority of managers who refused to vote in favor of the 5 sub rule for this season. I think we have seen some players suffering some terrible muscle-related injuries, that maybe could have been avoided, if the likes of Scott Parker wasn't such a prick.

I know he has a right to do what he thinks is best for his tiny club. But looking at the bigger picture. Looking at what used to be his peers... he, and a few others are not doing them any favors. He fucking with their livliehoods. And that, as Scotty would say, is 'scandalous'!

Sorry, I digress.

Jose's and the medical staff have got to get this just right. 'Cos if we can keep those three in particular at a high fitness level, and should we start to build momentum, it's critical that we figure out how to maintain their health. By all means... bend. But know what break looks like, and plan accordingly.

Which is why I wouldn't be surprised if Bale is on the bench against Fulham. And comes on after 55 minutes.

I just hope some of our fans understand that some tough decisions will have to be made, that will irk many. But throwing the same set of players out there every game is a recipe for disaster.

Also, with Lo Celso back in training... I cannot recall the last time we had everyone fit, and no one out injured at the same time.

May be an exaggeration.... but shit... two years, maybe?

Thought we had an option for another year? Doesn't sound like it from mourinho
I was under the impression that we had him on a 2 year loan but could cut the deal short if we wanted.

I can't imagine Real Madrid will want him back anyway.

Bale has 5 goal involvement in 362 PL minutes. That’s the third best in the squad despite having fewer minutes and starts than all his competition for a place.

And he’s only looked fit for about the last 133 of them (so, 1.5 matches with since he came on v City), where 4 of those goal involvement came from.

5 involvement 362, which is 5 in 4 matches wit worth of minutes, is incredible even if a tiny sample size. However, the current ‘fit’ Bale is giving us something every 33 minutes since he came on v City.

Tiny sample size obviously, but would you bet against him keeping that up v Fulham, Palace, Arsenal (who he loves playing), Villa and Newcastle?

I’m aware he won’t start every match, and that’s fine, but the guy is class and if he can be consistent till the end of the season then we must find a way to renew for next season, even if it’s accepting that we’ll unlikely get more than 1/2 - 2/3 of a season out of him. I want to see him in the stadium with the crowd.

I think he will start every match if fit from now on (though he certainly won't finish many of them).

The only games I could see us resting him for is the second leg uefa ties if we're practically through from the first leg.

Top rated player on the BBC match report web page and Jose also said that he was "so happy" with his performance.

I didn't see the game; presumably he was good today?
