According to this his loan has been ended

The hypothesis had already been admitted by Luís Filipe Vieira and will even materialize. Midfielder Gedson ends the loan at Tottenham earlier and joins Jorge Jesus' squad in January.
This does not, however, prevent Benfica from continuing in the market in search of a defensive midfielder who can also play the role of position 8.
In the past few days, Benfica and Tottenham have agreed to the early end of the 21-year-old's transfer.

This might be the making of his career. Unfortunate that he wasn't able to settle in and get more minutes but hopefully being able to train and watch our players has motivated him to go back to Benfica and prove that he can be a good player. Reminds me of when Eric Dier was loaned to Everton by Sporting, I think that experience helped crystallize what it takes to play at the highest level.

Bit of a funny one all round, really. Reminds me a bit of the Pau Lopez loan a few years back. I guess we must have seen something in him - either that or it was just an extra body in at a time when we had a lot of injuries.
Gosh that Pau Lopez deal still annoys me. We loaned him but never played him. He was available for a free transfer a year after starting a whole year in La Liga... we passed, Betis signs him and he plays well enough after 1 season to earn a 23mil transfer to Roma. It was free money just staring us in the face.

Think Gedson will have a decent career, but look far too lightweight for the physicality of English football, hopefully, he smashes Arsenal in the Europa league

I liked him as a player, but 50m would have been throwing money down the drain. He will definitely become a good player

If he was our player, I would be looking at a loan at Brighton or Fulham. Good luck to the lad.

Definitely feels like a stretch.

No way we should spend that on him. We could get a decent enough DM for that.

Probably best for both parties if the loan is cut short. Not getting a look in and don't see that changing tbh.

Nothing really stood out about him for me going by the little time he did have on the pitch but difficult to really comment on him as a player as never really had the chance to get going for one reason or another.

Talented player but I think we signed him as a squad filler when we were struggling badly with injuries last Jan. I don’t think Mourinho was ever interested in taking the time to develop him. He was more just making up the numbers until mourinho was able to mould the squad to what he needed.

Apologies for going slightly off topic, but I don't think a whole new thread would be appropriate, but I have a question about Portuguese names.

I've noticed a number of Portuguese players / football professionals that seem to have a different last name than the one they use. So Mourinho's full name is José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix, Gedson's last name seems to be Carvalho. Is that a common thing with Portuguese people? Also is there a connection with Brazil (via colonialist history) whereby many of their players choose a different name than their legal name? Any Portugal experts out there who can cast light on this?

Again, sorry for going off-topic.
Yeah, still have to remind myself who 'Alves Morais' is when checking the lineup on BBC.

Sorry for going off topic. Hope it's true that Gedson's loan been cut short. The boy needs games and he's not going to get that at us.

Looks like he's back at Benfica. In his instagram story, he's with current Benfica player Nuno Tavares. Best of luck to him.

Will go down like Stambouli as one of those "wait he played for Spurs?" type of transfers.

He's not on either the first team or U23 pages on the OS. Bit odd there's been no announcement first.

Edit: Per SlumDilla, I missed him. Thought he was a different number for some reason.

The Spurs OS or the Benfica OS? He's still on the Spurs OS and we're probably waiting for the end of the window to make the announcement. Not sure why but it seems like a Spurs thing to do.

Or have we signed Nuno Tavares and they just haven’t got round to telling us yet.
