Going by media reports coming out of both countries, we're not close to Betis' valuation. I get the game Levy's playing, but if it goes tits up and leaves us short for the season, it could have absolutely disastrous consequences.

Liverpool sold Coutinho mid-season so they had a lot of money to spend early in the window.

You are right... but i am assuming that we have a little more than what we need to raise by selling... Put it this way I highly doubt Poch, in his meeting with Levy at the end of last season, was told he must sell before buying.

Also lets be honest, whilst it is sensible to try to maximise your fees in it is counterproductive to getting the players you want - so we sometimes shoot ourselves in the foot.

I can see Levys view though. I bet he is thinking that Betis have already spent the GLC money... so they need to either accept the fee or be stuck with whatever they have spent plus a 50m odd player who isnt all too ecstatic...

But what if they'd rather be stuck with him than accept what they view as an under market value offer? What if Levy's assumption is incorrect, and they can cover the Fekir deal with the sale of Pau Lopez to Roma? Then Levy is playing a losing game, and the biggest losers (apart from him and Poch) are the fans.

This is literally last summer all over again.

Yet some posters on here choose to ignore all the warning signs that have been out there for weeks that this was going to happen.

We lost over 20 yes Twenty games last season. We only finished in the top four due to other clubs being more inept than we managed to be over the last 3/4 months of the season. It was clear that our squad needed some refreshing. We had excellent start to the tw getting in Ndombele but now it seems we have reverted to type.. yet again we are hearing the same old item excuses Levy is happy to spend money to get Potch’s targets but thegoal posts keep getting moved it’s not our fault, . we don’t want to be like Leeds.

People bang on about us not doing a Leeds, but Leeds hadn’t broken the world record for profit when they went on spending spree! They were using bank loans etc to fund there spending

No wonder Potch isn’t happy! It’s not good enough he s getting let down by the powers that be.

I just love the balancing the books argument. ofc we don't want to lose money on the players we have bought but we may in worst case scenario lose more money in the long run if we can't accept the markeds valuation of our fringe players. I hope Levy isn't to ambitious with this.

I never thought he would sign after we splashed the cash on Ndombele.

I just can't see us spending a bigger amount in the same window. Loved to be proved wrong of course.

Thats the game and we all know what will happen? Levy will stump up the cash in the end... he will pay what he was required to pay earlier... which meant Poch didnt get the players he wanted early enough

I think we will get the players in its just timing that is a bit shit but as someone alluded to - GLC wouldnt have turned up anyways because he was on his holidays

I honestly don't get the game, because it's been proven many times over not to work. IF we see GLC as a key player to take us forward then we need to accept the inflated prices that a top 10 European side has to pay. If we don't see him as this then we should have moved on and signed Ceballos on loan until we find the right player at the price we want to pay next window.

The lack of Trippier and Rose replacements is inexcusable really.

The lack of truly gunning for a big name signing, even if it meant falling short, is also pretty inexcusable - they are a number of big names out there looking to move and we shod have made a serious bid for at least one of them by now.

I admire your optimism, however I can't think of one time this has ever happened.

I thought Poch getting us to the CL final might change the thinking from Levy on & co but it seems that isn't even enough. Wouldn't blame Poch if he walked if it remains the same in two weeks.

We spent about £70m on Ndombele and Clarke and made little over £30m on Trippier and Jansen. I think we've also done well to shift bodies this window to make space for signings. So we've set things up ok but these deals for Sess and Lo Celso are just dragging on. I just dont think we're in a position to just pay what teams want considering we haven't sold anyone for big money.

Its hope rather than expectation

It would be absolute shit if we only got the one in... and the thing is this will snowball... there will be a summer where it will need an absolute overhaul... which stresses the importance of refreshing the squad every year

But we have money coming in still, at new record levels no less.
