Whether it's our first-choice centre-back, Maddison, Scott, or whoever, I'm hopeful that the money saved with this deal helps secure one of our other priority targets.

This is excellent. Love that we were not cornered into paying too much to Brentford.

Have not seen him play before, but our Italian chief scout seems to have a good eye for talent (and will know Serie A well), and the data seems to check out. Not a huge expenditure, and he could be our keeper for the next decade. I’m loving this.

We’ll need to focus on HG recruitment, I suppose, now. But that’s okay. Using a Non-HG squad spot for such a crucial first 11 player is fine.

I have a good feeling about this gut based on absolutely nothing. I just like how proactive we have been, no hanging around waiting for Brentford to blink, just take it or leave it or we move on. Hope this sets a theme for our dealings from now on.

Fully agree; often waiting for the perfect buy on paper, carries as much risk as actually doing the business and refreshing your team/positions.

Should always have options you’re happy with and have done your homework on, the fact we seem to have been so poor on this front in prior years (definitely better recently) is criminal when you consider the sums/stakes involved. As you’ve said, I hope it sets the bar for how we want to do things this summer and onwards.

Watched a video of his highlights. Palms about 80% back into his area. Fingers crossed this guy isnt a dud because we won’t get anything back for a problem keeper. But I like how we’ve just got it done quickly. Let’s hope it isn’t because he is a dud. 🤞

What I find interesting is that there is a bias towards Raya being a success and Vicario not. And I think it's subconsciously because of the money involved and the league they play in. As I've said before the year on his contract affects his market valuation, whether Brentford like that or not.

As a slight aside, I'm not sure why there is such a clamour for us to be searching the PL for our recruits (similarly why there is a clamour for us to go big, but I've harped on about that far too much). Our recent track record of recruiting from the PL/higher echelons of the Championship isn't wonderful is it really?

Richarlison - TBC (jury is out, I'm hopeful he will be amazing)
Bissouma - TBC but more positive than Richy (and will most likely be amazing, fingers crossed)
Spence - jury firmly out
Doherty - well
Hojbjerg - the most marmite of Spurs players currently (albeit I like him and also marmite)
Rodon - not lived up to hype
Sessegnon - such high hopes for him, but confidence on the floor, not what I expected
Clarke - oh

We have to embrace the approach we're seemingly taking. There will be plenty who say we should have just stumped up £40m for Raya. I expect, without intentionally strawmanning, they will be the same who want us to stump up whatever Leicester want for Maddison or whatever Club X wants for Player Z.
Not just this, our record buying from Italy is excellent. When our former director of football and current head scout are experts in the Italian market we would be stupid not to take advantage of it.

Romero, Bentancur, Kulusevski and now Udogie.

Most people seem to be wanting Raya because he is homegrown. Which is not a reason to pay double the fee.

Raya would of been nice as he knows the league so would've slotted in.

But this guy sounds good. Happy with this, excited to see how he gets on.

Apologies if shared already but sounds like we may have pulled off a cracking deal here.

Raya is the more well known name but I think this guy actually sounds a better fit. Stats check out and I like the bit in the video where they talk about him being imposing. It's something Hugo always lacked at the peak of his powers and will hopefully stand him in good stead in the PL.

Great stuff. Get in the bin, Brentford. Sends the right message for a change that we're not going to be hanging about getting our balls tickled for weeks on end as we usually do.
