If we have done our research and decided Madison is the player we want and the perfect fit, then you pay 10 mil extra and go for him.
But we know how Levy works, if we are in a "biding war" we always go for second best to save 10 mil,
which in the end always ends up beeing the most expensive option as they SUCK!
Any chance you are on eBay ? i've got some stuff to sell and you sound exactly the sort of person i'd like to have bidding on it.

I am not convinced either. Also doesn't feel like we're in a position to offer a large sum, with Kulusevski just signing permanently, CB's very much the desire and a multitude of players to get off the books. I now wouldn't be surprised if this is one we're keeping tabs on and may make a move on if other things materialise, but I'm not sure I can see us whacking £45m+ for him, just doesn't feel like he's a top and essential target for us in which he would have to be for us to pay that. Would love to be wrong, personally.
We are though very light in attack: Son, Kane, Kulusevski, Richarlison. So it’s a position we will have to strengthen. I wonder if we might focus on Barnes as he might be cheaper?

Honestly, 55m is not a crazy price for maddison. Though you would want it to be cheaper. We have spent that kind of money before if he's the priority its doable.

If they want 50m plus then walk away and don't waste time. We need to spend more in defence than attack anyway. Maddison would be good competition but we can't spend that much on competition. We're better off unearthing a young cheaper prospect to compete. We spent 60m on a forward to compete last summer and had a massive lack of quality at the back. Maybe give Gil a chance to compete with Kulusevski. I think he could do well under Ange anyway. Get a cheaper attacker to complete the forward line and spend more in defence.

I don't see him as just competition. I think he comes in and makes an immediate impact. He's a versatile player. Could play alongside Bissouma and Bentancur in a 4-3-3 or alongside Son and Kulu in a 4-2-3-1.

I honestly think he would be a game changer for us. I would love to get him.

We obviously need to spend in defence as well (Raya, Laporte and Geuhi/Ndicka please) but if it's an either/or we are going to really struggle. We need more creativity in attack.

This is one of the most overused statements for me. Our attack is fine and will be a lot better for playing on the front foot more. We will create chances in plenty of ways. Our defence is by far the biggest issue we have. I also don't think Maddison is that good or a definite starter. I certainly wouldn't call him a gamechanger.

Back to us being the favourites in the press for him, just like I predicted midweek. The modern day journalist churn is so predictable. Last minute Newcastle bids incoming before this time next week I suspect.

Hope so. I’ve wanted us to sign Maddison for a few years. He’s the one I really want from an attacking perspective.

Where are we being mentioned as favourites?

I don’t think that’s anything new. More a round-up of what’s going on in last couple of days.

No it’s not, it was just mentioned today as per the above posts. I suspect it will change again soon knowing how reporters work nowadays.

Apologies. Their Twitter feed had nothing else but the round up.

Id love us to sign Maddison. He's great on the ball, wants the ball, plays with his head up, looks to create, scores, assists and plays in the style we want.

He would fit into the 4-3-3 nicely, playing deeper as one of the attacking 8’s.

Having him and Kulusevski in team would be beautiful!

It is when his Leicester contract expires in 12 months.
It is a lot, but he's HG. I feel even with the fact he's HG, a fair price should be around the 40m mark. And I think inevitably, he will probably go for around 40m +add ons. If this was an overseas player with a similar goal contribution with 12 months left on their contract, you would probably be looking at around 30m. Leicester will be trying their luck, they know we both want him and they will want a bidding war. I don't know if we have interest in Barnes, but if we do, then there are things we could do such as pay more for Barnes and less for Maddison to slightly offset the amount Norwich would be due etc....
I'm actually confident this will get done. Raya is almost there, this is progressing slightly and we will bring in a LCB. Then we need to start clearing the decks. From what I hear, we are going to be pretty ruthless.

All sounds great, thanks for the info. Hopefully it all comes true.
