This absolutely! For me, there was something about Jan that just shouted "Bloody legend". In my lifetime watching us, I can recall many defenders that have played for the club, by that I mean playing with the soul of the club running through them - Players like Roberts, King, Mabbutt have all played for us in that vein. Jan for me is that modern pro who has forged a career and a lifetime connection to our club and for me, I'll put him up there as one of the defenders that played for Spurs in a way that meant something to our fans. Like the aforementioned players, I always felt that it was the badge and not the name on the back that he played for. Adios Jan, what a Spurs legend!Don't know if it's just the current state of things but Jan going has hit me in the feels a lot more than I thought it would.
I'm actually a little sad and I can't remember feeling like that for many players, if I'm honest.
Maybe it's because it feels like we've been on a journey together over his time at the club, moreso than many others. He's been with us for our recent rise to "competitors", which is something I haven't really seen much in my lifetime (and I'm 45!).
I'm kinda gutted that we couldn't give him a trophy for his efforts.
A really graceful defender, a decent bloke and I'd love to see him back here one day.
Really starting to get the feeling of the end of an era. That's the second of our genuinely world class Belgians to leave us towards the end of their careers. Third world class player to leave Spurs in 18 months.
In many ways it feels like we're starting again, but I don't think Jose is a "start again" kind of manager. The future is... going to be interesting. But considering we picked up Jan, Eriksen and Dembele for barely more than a combined £30, all as fairly young but well established players - those days are gone. I just can't see us making astute buys like that anymore.
A favourite of the fans for well deserved reasons, thanks Jan.
but that rubbish header against Ajax in last 5 minutes of the CL semi-final probably will be most remembered, lol....
lolllllll Jan TreetonghenThis feels so wrong because for me Jan should have been leaving with a league and champions League medal. He deserved it for his time at the club and came so close. Absolutely love this player. We even have a tree in the garden called Jan Treetonghen.
I never bought into this. As a fullback you have more chances to show off your ability. But as Centre back he was superb, absolutely superb. He wasour best left back, but he was also clearly our best CB too!Thought it was funny when he talked about the Dortmund game and said he played out of position. My head went "dude, that's when you were in your best position". What a left wingback he is.
