I really hope we can get him up to speed, we really need him with the busy Christmas period coming up.

Not a surprise about his position given his height and physic, though it's not set in stone now neither.
Position from youth isn't necessarily the same as a senior, and often first opportunity is given out wide.
Dier was signed as a centre back, but we've learned he played midfield a lot in Portugal, he got his opportunity at right back with us, then he took step up as a holding midfielder making him an England international, lost some of his youthful energy and quick legs - gone back to a centre back and is most comfortable there.
Our beloved Sol as well, striker as a youth player, got his first season as a fullback, eventually established himself as a centre back.
I reckon Tanganga's role in the squad at first will be as a jack of all trades, filling where needed, valuable on the bench. Luke Young did this for years, sadly felt he'd never get a permanent position hence left ... just as Stephen Carr got injured/finished.

Not sure I got this 100% correct but I swear Jose was quoted in the PM presser after City game as saying we now have 3 CB’s for the PL and 2 for EL (Roden not eligible and Toby injured)

So he’s referring to Sanchez and Dier in EL and Sanchez, Dier and Roden in PL. Now has he said that because he doesn’t trust Japhet to be fit given his recent injuries or because he sees Tanganga as a full-back or is Tanganga not registered in one of the squads? Or does he not rate him anymore which would be weird as he was fantastic when he played last season so I can’t for the life of me work out why Jose didn’t include him in the number of CB’s we have?

He’s called Rodon.

He prob just forgot about him
So Ali Gold asked him today in the presser why he doesn't mention him as a CB option we have and Jose said he can play CB but he see's him primarily as a full-back, interesting. Wonder if he might be the replacement for if Aurier wants to leave next summer, otherwise he's going to struggle to get much game time as a 3rd choice RB/LB and 5th choice CB cover in emergency.

Would like to see him on Thursday. Don't care what position.
With their players apparently dropping like flies we could always give him a go in goal? ;)
No but seriously I agree I'd love to see him get some minutes soon, could end up being Doherty RB, Sanchez and Davies CB and Tanganga LB if he's fit enough to start on Thu.

It’s his name, you ignorant prat. It really isn‘t hard to spell a players name correctly when it’s five letters long.
Who cares, do you really need to comment on it, its just a spam post by you, not needed.
People are dyslexic and people spell players names incorrectly from time to time, I spelt all the other players names in my post correctly, just leave it out and move on please and calm yourself down. Focus your chat in this thread on Japhet Tanganga.

Hey, I’m not the one dishing out spams and dislikes because someone corrected a players name. You could have just said, “oh fair enough, my bad.“ Instead you doubled down and inferred that it was the spelling of his name that was at fault rather than you.

It’s disrespectful to the players to spell their names wrong imo.

On one hand, I get where you are coming from. It's important to respect people's names and preferred pronouns, etc. I agree wholeheartedly.

However, I breath a sigh of relief that you haven't combed over my messages. I make spelling mistakes over player names all the time. Unintentional, of course. But I'm also severely dyslexic. So, that will happen now and again.

Ok... so, what do I mean by all that? Calling someone out for not spelling a name properly I think can potentially be done in a less personal way.
EG: "Just so we are all clear, his name is spelt R-O-D-O-N. In case there's any misunderstanding". That provides grace and dignity for the person you are calling out, in my humble opinion. As you are not centering on them.

Or, you can berate someone's spelling publicly, and in turn, if they do have a learning disability, and shit like that happens, you've also just embarrassed them for no reason. Conversely, you could just send them a private message and let them know that they made a typo, if it is something that you feel warrants correction.

Yes, I'm extremely bias about stuff like this, for which I do apologize profusely. Call me sensitive, call me a snowflake. I won't be offended.

Just note, this is not directly aimed at you, but all of us in general. 'Cos I make similar comments at times, and then realize, that may have been counter-productive. But, as noted earlier, I've lived my whole life fighting tooth-and-nail with dyslexia, so, it is admittedly a trigger. And I'm a big believer, now more than ever, it's critical to show a little grace here and there. Life is shit and divisive enough right now. It may seem like doing that on a forum is pointless, but with the way things are, a little bit can go a long way to setting an example for dignified/respectful repartee. Of course we'll always take the michael, as this is SC. But maybe some things can... live and let live. You know?

Anyways, weren't we talking about the merits of whether Jafath Tanganguh ( ;)) should be played at CB or RB? My personal preference is both. As it helps to have that sort of player on the right side, similar to Davies on the left. Both can be played as out-and-out full backs, but also have the versatility to play in the middle. A two-fer, if you will! And Jose loves those sorts of players.

Sent with love. ❤

I get where you’re coming from, I do, but I didn’t berate anyone, it was just a fairly polite correction. I didn’t react harshly until the guy started dishing out spams and dislikes, then started sending unsolicited PMs acting like he was a mod etc.

I’ve a fairly unusual name, and people have misspelled and mispronounced it through my whole life, so I guess it’s a pet hate of mine. I just find it disrespectful, spelling the odd word wrong here and there isn’t the end of the world, but someone’s name is their name, especially when it’s something simple like Rodon, and it’s one of our own players.

Funnily enough, this being the Tanganga thread, as Jose mentioned to him in the documentary that he hates people getting his name wrong.

Spot on post, well said.

And agree with you that JT could play RB or CB, as you say a similar version of Davies but on the right hand side of the defence.
Hope he gets some minutes tomorrow.

The Tanganga as a right back comment really so m does suggest to me that Aurier was earmarked for departure this summer. In the end, thank God that didn’t happen as Tanganga has been injured and Aurier has played a huge role for us so far, particularly in defeating two of our top table rivals, while Doherty has yet to get into a real stride (though has been very harshly treated in my opinion). Has events transpired as planned, I genuinely think our season would look much worse for it, and that’s as someone who sees Tanganga becoming our first choice right back in time.

Also, @Tucker and @fishhhandaricecake , I think you’ll find it’s spelt Rodin and that he’s a bastard great grand child of the great sculptor as a result of him touring ‘The Kiss’ in his later years and hooking up with a fish wife in the mumbles.

I'm quite pleased by this actually. On reflection is does make sense. I think he could do a bloody good job there with a bit of experience

...
I think sissoko would have been the primary backup to doherty.
Everyone loves Tanganga's enthusiasm and he is one of our own, but he is not a natural fullback.
He looks awkward. The place he has looked brilliant at times is at LCB.

I think what Mourinho meant was the main opportunities Tanganga is going to get is at fullback as he is reluctant to play someone so raw in the team's core positions. He wanted an experienced CB last summer and I dare say he'll be after one in the next windows too.
Tanganga needs to get games under his belt where-ever and when ever he can. Being a utility player for the team that wins the league is not so bad....

If we had sold Aurier in the summer we’d have bought another right back. I’m glad we kept him on though he’s been good this season.
