Burnley had two other great keepers in Nick Pope and Tom Heston. You can understand why it was difficult for him to get in the side.

He’s clearly fired up and motivated to get back to football. I’m happy we’re taking a chance and giving him a lifeline. A player with his drive and mentality could up the levels of Lloris and Gazzaniga — who he could very well displace as our backup keeper.

Now Whiteman and Austin can both go on loan and properly develop.

Not sure why anyone is assuming Gazzaniga is off, unless he specifically asks to leave. These days you need to mitigate the possibility that your first choice is going to suffer a significant injury, and that means three keepers you trust. It’s not like up front where yes, you need the one other forward but you also have a bunch of other attackers who can do a job there.

This is very reminiscent of when we signed Gazzaniga, loads of people completely lost their mind that day.

Anything that means I don’t have to witness Gazzinga in goal for us is positive as far as I’m concerned. Think Joe Hart is good enough to usurp him

Thanks to this transfer I found out that Joe Hart's name is actually Charles, now I have another useless football trivia for my collection.

Thanks Joe Charles.
