Isnt there an option of one year in addition to this one? I suspect we will take up that option.

Good squad option. I only really see him at wing back if we are chasing a goal. Otherwise he can cover the inside forward role. He always does a job for the team and is a great character. He seems happy here too so not surprised if he stays a bit longer. I think like Messi he will probably go back home a little later when he's not up to the level anymore. He still has it in him to compete in this league for a couple more years.

I can't see why we would want to go beyond his one year option. Let him see out his contract including the option and then hopefully we have a good youngster of our own or from elsewhere to take over.

Interesting ITK from @Hotspur88 in the ITK thread - https://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/in...ion-thread-22nd-july-2022.150493/post-8018964

Players like Rodon, Emerson & Doherty also could go if we receive an offer we deem acceptable but Conte is happy to have them all around if not. With Lucas as another option at RWB, either of Emerson or Doherty are expendable.

Seems to tie in with how Lucas is being used in pre-season which I'm a bit mixed on.

Lucas is a versatile player and adding the RWB string to his bow could maximise his minutes and provide us with options but is he a better fit than Doherty? Or even Spence in due course? I'm inclined to say no.

Not suggesting he's option A - Perhaps that is Spence but my preference (likely not very controversial) would be to sell Emerson, have Doherty/Spence as RWB options with Lucas as cover/plan B when needed.

Emerson seems like a good guy, fits in well with the squad and clearly does his work in training etc. just for me his lack of end product going forwards makes him expendable. Appreciate some games we may want more defensive capability but i don't see why we'd keep an asset sat there just for those games?

Anyway, turned some Lucas info into a RWB chat but thought this was a good place to share.

I think the fight for RWB is just pretty wide open. I could actually imagine that we will start with Lucas against Saints and then the more defensive Emerson versus Chelsea, but from then on it probably is the on it is their place to lose to Doherty and/or Spence if they show weakness.
And then there is the last week of the transfer window in August where one of the guys could still head out, depending on who hasnt gotten into the first options for Conte. Long shot, but I could already see a loan for Spence in winter.

It will have been mentioned but anyone know why he was dropped from the squad today?

Antonio said it was because he has inflammation in his tendon.

Hope he isn't talking about the Achilles, but most likely that's the case. I'm suffering from problems there and it's proving very challenging to get rid of them, even after shutting down my athletic lifestyle.

Not sure of reliability but this could be the out the ITKs were talking about that may cause us to go for Carrasco.

Interesting, he seemed nailed on to stay but with his age, contract, and how Spurs usually do business I've been saying/thinking all window with Adama available that I'm very surprised they wouldn't accept an offer near 20 or so mil then use that to flip it for Adama to make a profit and have a similar player that's younger come in at the same time.

Conte also said it was a problem he himself suffered with as a player. Went on to say it's a tough one to manage and isn't usually a week or two out then back to normal.
This could make a transfer difficult but more worryingly I'm not sure he'll be readily available over the next few weeks.

Few Turkish sources linking it.. We’re short as it is can’t see us getting in 2 to replace him and Gill

Well if there's any smoke at all to the Carrasco story yesterday and we could get in YC and Adama while losing LM and BG and maybe allowing a RWB to leave then I could see the logic, but that's a lot of moving pieces in the final 48 hours or so.
