The problem being is he gets the ball and usually has 3 defenders on his arse straight away. Does the first defender with ease. We have no options up top, teams can defend against us with ease when both our only real goal threats are out. Our front 3 are out ffs. Take red bulls front 3/4 out tonight and see how they would have got on? Fuck football.

Might as well bring this up. I thought he was poor last night and a large part of why we struggled getting through WHAM. He drops into the half spaces but then is too slow to react to things occurring around him.

For a player as fast as he is, I can hardly recall him ever getting in behind the defense.

i always wonder why our so-called wingers always go through middle instead of running down the flanks and cross the ball, since AVB

Since AVB we have played with inverted wingers and the full backs are meant to hug the touchline.

I thought he did ok yesterday - very little end product but one or two good passes and his speed is so disruptive to the opposition. I think he's been worn out this season from everyone else being injured and us not having the option to rest, rotate or even substitute him so his form fell of a cliff in the second half of the season, but there's a good player in there somewhere.

This might be controversial, but I'd actually like to see him given a go as a wing-back / attacking full-back and see if he can make the kind of conversion that worked wonders for the likes of Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Victor Moses. I think he already does get stuck in to some extent and has no problem leaping for headers and putting himself out there against much taller opponents, but just imagine if he had a bit of extra space to burst forward with the ball at high speed from a deeper position. When someone starts running at pace then teams panic and adjust their shape, imagine also having the speed of Bergwijn and Son to take advantage of that, and of course Kane in the middle of it all. Would also guess that Lucas would have better delivery than Aurier if he was receiving the ball out wide regularly as he's a better technical footballer.

Obviously I'd prefer us to sign a proper RB - but I'd try this as a stop gap particularly if we have to rotate a lot of players over the coming weeks.

Stevie B seems to have a lot more game intelligence and awareness of what is going on around him than Lucas

was a big difference in quality when he cameas a Sub I thought

I have to agree Stevie B contributed more to the game in 20 min than Moura did in 70.

Moura comes inside too much & should stay wide for me, although I think Jose wants Aurier to get forward on the right, but surely it works better if Lucas stays in touch with him & doesn't leave him isolated.

He's the sort of winger that would be better coming in off his right foot from the left. However he has ended up being a proper outside right which is unusual nowadays. Would have been good to have trained playing LW from a young age.

I like him and he’s definitely an important member of the squad but I think he lacks game intelligence. He just doesn’t seem to interact very well with the rest of the team. I never see quick one twos or him making intelligent runs ahead of the ball to receive it on the run into space. He’s more of an instinctive and individualist player. Great to bring on as an impact sub but fully understand why he was never an automatic pick for Poch.

Bergwijn seems the more cultured intelligent player. Able to interplay with team mates but with the pace and trickery to also make chances for himself. I think he’ll be playing ahead of Lucas sooner rather than later.

He played a couple nice balls between the defence for Aurier to run into but other than that kept dropping in a Cm position which isn’t for him

Watching the game out of the corner of my eye made it impossible to see whether he was moving in and out of space intelligently but i don't recall him crowding Kane or others like he often did. Did anyone watch him closely enough to see either way? . I did notice a couple of penetrating passes, to Aurier i believe, which caught him in space on full stride behind the defense. So despite his "clearance" in front of the West Ham goal it seemed on the surface to be a fairly good performance, although relatively innocuous.

Bergwijn deserves to start over him at the moment for me, but Lucas is certainly a great attacking option for us to have. He will be a great super sub for us with his blistering pace.

He is also a great character and fully COYS which you love to see.

i get what you mean but we had rose and walker at their prime who are far superior to davies and aurier so i think we shouldn't blindly insist with inverted wingers now
