This is Ornstein on Man City an Gvardiol, but swap the names man city and spurs and Gvardiol and VDV and you have exactly what is probably happening with us and it is why people just need to chill. It happens to all teams. The selling team always more than usually guides how long these things take, especially when they dont want to lose the player.

But ITk this morning suggests it’s nothing to do with the selling team, it’s Levy trying to squeeze more out of the deal.

I guess we just have to wait and see how this plays out.

I'm shocked that some of you think that error prone defenders that struggle to make good decisions will suddenly stop making mistakes if we have an organised press in front of them.

No, however its the law of averages. In the low block, If you opponent is camped in your half, peppering balls into the box, and shots then you are more likely to make mistakes.

If you maintain a lot more possession and ball retention higher up the pitch, then there is less opportunities.

Because we’ve played a style of football over the last 2 managers that invites pressure but at the same time requires defenders to make no mistakes and to not be brave.

If we have a new manager that encourages bravery and does not punish you for making mistakes it could lead to some players responding well by being more confident in their play and making better decisions.

I still reckon somethings going on and it's more complex than us just completely pulling out.

Don't see why we'd spend ages negotiating with both clubs, get VdV over to speak to Ange, then last minute decide "nah both too pricey- back to the bargain bucket".

Probably some kind of Levy fuckery afoot but not convinced we've just given up on signing a decent LCB. Think it's something else (delaying, wanting to sell first, taking time to look at other options, something Kane related?).
I don’t think levy has ever been involved in a transfer with Wolfsburg.
So he can try to get away with his usual shit of agreeing a fee, walking away and following up with a low ball offer just to fuck them around.
Can’t do it with Leverkusen so easily (tried it last January with hincapie).

We've played in a defensive formation and still couldn't defend. We basically had 7 defensive players and 3 attackers. We're now going to 5 defensive players and 5 attackers and you think the defense will improve?

You do realize that virtually the same defence with the same players DID finish in the top 4 the season before last ????????
We were also top of the league with these players under Jose.
maybe they did do us a favour after all….

It’s not so much the new manager who won’t punish our defenders - it’s the opposition strikers!

Clearly we need defensive upgrades, but the ones we have might not be quite as wobbly if they aren't under the cosh for 90 mins every week.

It’s possible for sure. We have invited pressure onto our defence (sometimes from the out set and other times even when we’ve been winning by a goal or 2) for the last 2-3 years.

if we have a new manager who wants to play the majority of football in the opposition half instead of around our 18 yard line some of our defenders might appear better than they previously were.

I made a conscious decision when ange was appointed to have a clean slate on players.

Yes we need to move some on, but I'm not making any judgements on them based upon the last 4 years of shite football.

I'm going to put my trust in Ange and see where it takes us. If Ange says get rid of someone like Kane, then we should just go with it and see where we end up.

I guess I'm "Trusting the process"

...shudder.

Probably best if we all just agree that it would definitely be beneficial for Spurs to sign at least one, preferably two or even three CB's (like VdV) as there are definitely better CB's around than our current bunch , but that the style of football and the lack of any form of organised team press at the tail end of last season made our existing CB's look worse than they've looked under a more functioning and/or front foot system (Sanchez under Poch a prime example, yes still not perfect but not Coco the Clown either).

if we're doing that our defenders will need to be on halfway. Therein lies the problem. They can't defend high, against pace. See Davies v Mbeumo, Dier v Rashford (or Salah, different kind of error), Sanchez at Bournemouth. I can't be arsed to think harder, but there are other examples. If we don't sign pace, there will be countless examples next season.

I have concerns about Dier in a back 4 honestly. People talk about playing on the front foot but it's not going to be that simple. We're still going to be pressed and we're not going to dominate possession as much as people are suggesting. Certainly not for a while. Having watched our possession play the last few years we're a long way off that. It's going to take a few months at least for us to transition the way Ange wants. We're missing our best midfielder for the first few months too. Poch had to bring Anderweireld in to partner Vertonghen before we started to look solid at the back. We don't have anyone on that level who Ange can work with so need to sign someone either that kind of level or at least the potential to be.

Sanchez is our fastest CB and by most peoples thinking on here Davies won’t be starting it will be this new kid we’ve got. I don’t think Dier will be starting and I’m sure we will sign a CB

No one knows, though, and even though I wasn’t massively keen on Ange I’ll let him work it out and see how shit pans out on the pitch. It would be wise to at least wait until the window closes before shitting the bed.

You must been reading between lines, Levy was never mentioned neither money mentioned. It is suggestion yet the hate the melt down is incredible. I been called the cancer of this club because of suggestions by certain ITK.
