They paid £45m I think, as Trix just said 3rd party lender, they pay them in installments as opposed to paying the club.
Fair enough and I get that, which backs up my point that clubs will always look to spread payments (however they can).

Problem is Levy will want his cake and to eat it. Low fee and little up front.
Don't doubt it mate but let's see what happens with this one. ITKs seem optimistic that deal is still on so hopefully some good news soon

To add to the conversation regarding the release clause, for some reason in Portugal the rules state that the release clause can only be paid by the player and not the club. The worse part it that income tax kicks in, so you'd have to pay more than the stipulated value in the contract. For example, the 120M release clause in Enzo Fernandez contract is in fact around 180M due to taxes. That's why Chelsea are negotiating Enzo around 130M, according to rumors.

Normally, the clubs can reach an agreement to sell around the release clause either way but the selling club can make it more difficult if it wants to

It is, but of course can be worked around. Can negotiate that with the club or it can be done through a 3rd party for instance.
The wonderful world of smoke and mirrors….. I’m sure FP/DL can navigate through to sort ??

Tottenham are plotting a raid on Sporting Lisbon for Pedro Porro and former Spurs youngster Marcus Edwards... with north Londoners still holding a 50% sell-on clause as part of his deal to join the Portuguese side

  • Marcus Edwards left Tottenham in 2019 after only one first-team appearance
  • The English forward, 24, has racked up 12 goals and 12 assists in 39 games
  • Pedro Porro was formerly on the books at Manchester City but left back in 2022
Tottenham are to hold talks with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday over potential deals for Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards.

Sporting have so far been unwilling to sanction any transfer unless the players' buy-out clauses are met.

Porro, 23, has a £40million clause while Edwards, the former Tottenham trainee, has a £52m clause but Tottenham still hold a 50 per cent sell-on as part of his previous transfer.

Quick note on the Marcus Edwards story as we haven’t got a thread for him, that report initially came from A Bola, which has a very pro-Benfica, anti-Sporting agenda. Wouldn’t believe anything out of Portugal regarding Sporting(‘s good) players until it’s in Record.
So should we believe now

Fuck sake, told there is truth in both :sorry:
We do seem to like these kinds of deals and this would be fairly reminiscent of the Juve double deal last Jan.

We find a club where we have some leverage and then try to get a bit of a bargain by combining 2 signings into one so we can shave a bit off various clauses etc.

These two seem far less like 'Conte' signings, though. The potential ceiling is high, but neither player is the finished article.

As before, I know he was happy with Porro, but Edwards????

I really like Edwards and my main fear with him is attitude and game time as I said yesterday.

However if we keep Gil I think we then possibly need to sign someone a bit stronger, with real lightning pace and/or more positional flexibility.

So I’d take Edwards if we loan out Gil but if Gil stays I think we should look at someone like Kudus or Diaby instead. Who can both play left OR right and are a bit more explosive and durable.

Yeah bit of an odd one.

I suppose he has personally seen Edwards rip us apart in the CL twice which might make him slightly more amenable to the deal than he would be otherwise for a small, dribbly wide player from the Portuguese league.

I still have nightmares about that Edwards run where he went around about 7 players and so very nearly scored....
