What’s that sound? Oh, someone kicking a can down the road..

Can’t see this integral information only coming to light during negotiations now. Come on!
we might be waiting till the end of the window and offer more than the clause as otherwise, it becomes valid for the next transfer window

This guy was the one to break the news about Danjuma. So maybe I was right earlier :cautious:.

Surprise between #Tottenham and Pedro Porro. The player has already said yes but the 45 million pound clause with lo #SportingCP could only be activated in the summer. Sporting ask for more money at #THFC

Surely the fact we’ve been negotiating for weeks is enough to tell us that the release clause doesn’t matter? We aren’t intending on matching it anyway and never have been, hence the endless meetings. Sporting seem fine with that, despite what they say. Non story imo.

Mike Mcgrath says the release clause had expired but now it doesn’t exist until the summer?

Very strange. I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted more money though.

If that report is true, Levy doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would cave to them moving the goal posts at the finish line like this

Eh? We’d wait until the end of the window so we can pay more, otherwise the clause for the player (who’ll be at a different club by then) will be active next transfer window… ?

Why did the buyout clause turn from Euros to Pounds all of a sudden?

In fact, surely no release clause benefits us. We’re in advanced negotiations anyway, which sporting have played along with, so a deal is nearing. This makes any potential hijack a lot tougher if anything.

Ofc it does mean we can’t fall back on just paying it, if sporting play up, but I doubt we would ever have anyway.

wouldn’t be surprised to see this deal get called off today.

equally wouldn’t be surprised if we completed the deal today.

just such a long, drawn out, boring saga when it really didn’t need to be.

I’ve never ever heard of a release clause working like that. We aren’t talking about something you’d buy in the January sales! ? #haveyougotareceiptforthat?

”I know the window is still open, but the “release clause” expired yesterday.. but it comes back in again next window.”

We’ve been in negotiations for ages anyway, regardless of whether or not there was a release clause!

I don't see the point in reacting to every report - seems a stretch to call it that when it's a tweet - as there's now going to be a void that needs to be filled. Just sit back and see what happens

If this deal STIlL isn’t announced by the end of the weekend, (after the final), I’d say theirs a highly likely chance it’s not happening.

Yeah it’s all bollocks. They’ll get it sorted, if they don't, they don’t.

Not aimed at you specifically Stan, but do we feel the same we about Zaniolo then, genuine question to people? As he's essentially instructed his agent to tell Roma he's not going to play as well? (same salt pinch caveat etc)
Personally that makes me not want a player, same with trossard. I was happy we didnt get him as i think attitude goes a long way to making a player that 10% better. Danjuma is an interesting one, i'm not sure how i feel there as he signed a contract then walked away which doesnt show great character. I'm on the fence on that one as the change in manager is a valid reason to doubt the move i.e. new boss may not want you etc.

I dont think there have been that many meetings. I wouldn't be surprised if this was already sorted a long time ago. Sporting wanted him for the final and used the time to put some tough stance PR in place to make it look like they have fought for every cent of the deal. Just hope it happens on Monday so we can get on with trying to get some form going again

We were never paying the clause anyway so why is this ground breaking news?

i definitely can see this taking to deadline day and us getting nobody else in because “we were focused on getting this one over the line”, a tottenham hotspur classic
