The problem is not only Højbjerg. The problem is having the whole midfield being defensive players, Højbjerg can not shine when he does not have any creativity around him. our whole midfield in one picture:

Looks like the ‘I told you sos’ are out like clockwork. You lot must be delighted, you must’ve been expecting to wait at least a couple of matches before rejoicing in our player having a bad performance.

Good for you, the world needs happiness.

didn’t you say he was dogshit on the previous page?

I love how you say this with such confidence as if you’ve been proven right after a single match of football.

thats a very strange opinion from you again. It is because he isn’t a defensive midfielder and it is unfair on him that he’s been made to be made out as one. His purchase was never enough, that was obvious to everyone who’d seen him play for Southampton. By all means sign him, but him on his own was never enough to solve our midfield problems.

I said he was dogshit yes, and also made sure I stated that so were two players widely regarded to be our two best. I also was fully supportive of his signing, so it’s hardly the same as all the trolls rubbing their hands with glee at the chance to rampage in with their ‘I kNEw hE WOuld BE A SHiT SignINg!!&@“*^!!’

But you already knew that didn’t you ?

So this is the great player everyone has been raving about. Just one game but he and Doherty like like the band averrage signings I thought they were. Jose when asked what they bring had no answer but more bodies.

Completely agree. Buy mid table players and we're surprised at their performances.

Their first game for us when every player was shit, what do you expect from them?

there was a spell late on where he was demanding the ball from others and marshalling the play, it led to some of our best midfield possession of the half, he did ok today, obviously tired as the game wore on simply because he was left by his (constantly changing) midfield partners, more to come from him

I think we'll find that he works better in a midfield 3 where his only top is to win the ball and pass it 5 yards. We need to highlight his strengths and not have him share the midfield passing responsibilities. I'm not judging him on working in a midfield 2 like we saw today.

I don't mind buying mid table players if they are the best players at those clubs. Remember when Dembele or Modric or Wanyama at his peak were out of the side for a match or two we would miss them significantly due to their quality. Hjòbjerg went out of the Southampton side and Romelu came in and they looked a better team in the middle of the park. That is not just what I witnessed but also Southampton fans opinions. Is he crap no...is he better then what we got ...well that isn't very hard due to the lack of quality we currently have but in my opinion we needed better players.

He will have his good games but he is not the player some fans think we have signed.

Way too early to write him off. Thought there were some promising signs along with the obviously disappointing stuff. He's still our best option over the others (not that that says much).

We were clearly outplayed in midfield by Everton's new signings, both Allan and Doucoure were dominant. My question is why hasn't Mourinho seen we need more than just Hojbjerg in there? I guess he knows funds are limited and also knows he has other holes to fill.

I really really enjoyed the Everton midfield - it had balance, power, pace and creativity... I dont think that mdifield has goals but is a dominant midfield.
