He also played in the loss to Fulham a few weeks ago, and the drop off in quality was quite obvious. I think he’s a good sub to steady the ship for us now, but not a quality option to start.

I think Skipp is better at receiving the ball on the turn than Hojbjerg. PEH is far more likely to return the ball first time to a CB. Defensively I used to hold Skipp in high regard, but he seems to get dribbled past far too easily now.

either Skipp or PEH would be a huge downgrade from Bissouma, but this would unlikely be addressed in winter

Huge gambling scandal in Italy incoming, some claim 50 names will be out shortly and potentially a few teams will be looking for new midfield.

Where are you getting 50 names from? I’ve only seen Tonali and Zaniolo so far.

He was playing in a reserve team Vs Fulham. Of course there was a big drop off. He will start against Fulham. He us unsuited to Ange's style of football but he’s the best we’ve got.
At the moment I doubt there is a better player to play in front of the defence in the whole league than Bissouma.
Rice is a decent player but doesn’t just go past players like Bissouma does.

It's a third hand info I read up ealier today, from paparazzi Fabio Corona.
I tried to find original source that mentioned the "50 names" but couldn't find it, my bad.

When I look up this guy seem to have pretty shady background but all 4 names (Fagioli, Tonali, Zaniolo and Zalewski a few hours ago) out in the news now were from him originally, I think.

At least part of the info was from an interview excerpt from RadioRadio Roma (google translated) today:

Fabrizio Corona exclusively ▷ “Zalewski is suing me? They asked me not to mention him. Beans? At Juventus they knew"

The football earthquake that is shaking the panorama of Italian sport risks becoming increasingly overwhelming.
At the center of the investigation is a case of allegedly illegal betting. Among the protagonists are some of the most important prospects in Italian football: Nicolò Fagioli , Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Zaniolo . They left the national team retreat in Coverciano to prepare for the next matches in view of the European qualifiers. The police have already questioned Tonali and Zaniolo. The two were served with the notice of guarantee from the Turin prosecutor's office, Ansa reports. A real scandal that risks casting serious shadows on Italian football, and which finds Fabrizio Corona as its main spokesperson. The entrepreneur and television personality has in fact taken the matter into his own hands, gradually revealing the names of the alleged footballers involved in illegal betting. The last name mentioned by Corona is that of Zalewski of Roma.
Everything now depends on ascertaining whether the bets directly involve the results of the football championships or are at the center of the prosecutor's attention because they are carried out on illegal sites.

In the meantime, Fabrizio Corona spoke to our microphones like this.

There hasn't been an investigation like this since Calciopoli : it concerns clubs, players, agents and prosecutors.
In your opinion, why did they (the police) go to Coverciano yesterday? They would never have gone if Dillinger News hadn't anticipated the names because they would have waited for the Italy match. Because Italy is playing for qualification for the European Championship and Tonali above all is a key player for the national team
."

Zalewski

Are Zalewski's lawyers threatening to sue? I also have messages from the mother who writes to me kindly, since Zalewski's girlfriend is a very dear friend of mine, I have five messages asking me not to mention her name ."

"Beans? Ask yourself why he didn't go to the USA”

Beans? I published the news on August 1st, he self-reported a week ago. Why did he self-report? Who told him? The company . It's a shame that the club, when the news came out, didn't send him to America to fake an injury and try to cure him. And he failed to declare to the prosecutor's office that he knew he was betting, so Juve committed an offence . When the investigation started, they couldn't do anything else, because there are two prosecutors investigating, to force him to self-report and start covering their asses, including Juve. Because Juve commits a disciplinary offense ."

“Zaniolo? On Tuesday I tell everything from De Girolamo"

On Tuesday I will go to Nunzia De Girolamo to get a 15% share, where I will tell all the evidence of Zaniolo's story : how it began, when and why. Zaniolo's mother? I have a journalistic source who tells me about this hypothesis. I did a crazy report with all the objective evidence .”

Other names

Lists of players circulating? Now all the shocking fake news and shocking names begin. Now it's too simple: everyone wants to name names. Zaniolo accused? I announced the names two days ago, it's not like they're investigating him in two days: it means that the prosecutor's office was already investigating him, right? Am I a person interested in the investigation? When the police notify you, you have the freedom and right to appear.
I went and confirmed the names and sent the police to Coverciano
."

Other names? We have some, also from Serie B and Serie C. Today these players are all good guys. Fagioli is a very good guy, married people, with families, very serious, people who earn 10 million euros. The moment they earn these figures and bet, with under-the-table betting, these kids have a serious illness , they are gambling addicts. It's like being a drug addict, because people who gamble millions of Euros online are sick. And therefore they are not guilty, they also have the justification of being affected by a serious syndrome which is gambling addiction, which saves them in a criminal or civil judgment, because they are sick people. "

There's the 18 min interview/program in Italian in link below; maybe there's more in there.

This topic would be better served in the Serie A thread, I think, instead of here or the Zaniolo thread. @Rob ?

Will be important player for us whilst Bissouma is out now and in January.

Hope Bentancur is back asap too as ideally we play Bentancur as the 6 and PEH as one of 2x 8's as PEH isn't really good enough with the ball imo to play as the 6 like Bissouma does but as an 8 he looks good for Denmark.

Think he’s done a great job for us this season, and think he’ll do a good enough job for us this week and during AFCON.

He’s one player that’s been mentioned fairly often as a manager-in-waiting. Not for us, but in general. I wonder if he’ll see some value in staying to work and learn under Postecoglu.

Looks like I'm in the minority but I also want him to stay in January

So Fagioli banned for 7 months, and Pogba likely follows soon for a different reason.
Juve still has Rabiot, Locatelli, McKennie (looks like playing on the right more now a days) and Miretti; they have no CL this year.

Not sure if they will pay big for PEH.
Wonder if Newcastle have an interest for PEH now.

If he's sold in January it will be the end of the window.

We won't leave ourselves short.
I'm not so sure, we sold big Dave after all and that's left us pretty short at CB.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him go if a decent offer came in early, Ange seems pretty ruthless when it comes to clearing players out and he's not scared to throw a youngster into the mix to fill the gaps.

I'm all for it, to be honest. I like PEH but the rebuild must be hard and full.
We can't afford to be left with more players like Hugo and Dier, just milling about and getting paid for nothing.

It sounds like both Phillips and Dorrington are now ahead of Dier.

Agreed. He's very likely to leave in Jan but will certainly leave next Summer if not. Depends how Bentancur returns and if we can get the replacement we want.
Regardless of how we rate him, he's a top pro...that's not up for debate, that's for sure.
