Great find! Rodrigo will probably end up as the deepest lying playmaker and Skipp/ PEH/ Winks will play ahead of him and press higher up the pitch.

Looks good for a CM3 setup. The question is, Is he good enough to play in a CM pivot where you need 2 exceptional players? I think Conte believes he is, which will give us many more options as to how we line up. Previously, I'd say Conte's attempts at a midfield pivot haven't worked out very well and that's why we wanted Bentancur. Time will tell.

Looks like defensive mode is his forte , a new Dembele maybe ?

"Rodrigo Bentancur has made more tackles + interceptions combined than any other Juventus player in Serie A since the start of last season (168): ◉ 95 tackles ◉ 73 interceptions He’s also won possession more times than any of his teammates (291)."

Don't know if this has been posted before , like for like , I think Rod just shades it.

Nice, i've done one with him and Jorginho and it shows Rodrido beating him in a lot of areas and being very close in most of those he loses out on:

I think he's one of those "don't realise what you have till he's gone" players that Juve fans might regret losing eventually. Not eye catching but the work he does allows others to be able to express themselves.

personally I love this type of player, and they are far more appreciated in The Prem than they are on the continent.

Apologies to the poster who mentioned it earlier, I claim no credit, but some people might have missed this blurb from De Ligt:

He gave one surprising response when queried about his most talented teammates.

“To be honest, the general level of the team is really high," the 20-year-old said. "Obviously there’s Ronaldo, but I won’t name him because everyone knows who Cristiano is and what he can do.

“So I’ll say there are two other players who struck me: one is [Paulo] Dybala, who has truly stunning technique.

“The other, and it might sound strange to some, is Rodrigo Bentancur, a player with truly amazing technical ability.

“He’s quite underrated. He’s a great player with a great future ahead of him.”

Really think he’s being underrated by a large part of the fan base. The man won x2 Scuddeto at 21& 22 as a regular starter in Juve CM. It’s not like he won them like his first year when he was a bit part player at 20. He was integral. I really think we’ve got him on the cheap for £20m. I think he had 2 years left so that probably bumped it down a bit. But for me in the natural scheme he’s a £40m player imo and may well just be coming into his peak years. I’m actually really excited about him.

Hard to know we have had negative press, and Juve are painting the picture of they screwed us over / used our desperation against us, I've read a couple of articles that our football director lost his head one being The athletic.

In some way this fills me with more hope for the pair seeing as more often than not we have had a lot of build-ups and they have turned out to be dross. also, i think they look like they might suit our system better than at Juve.

But the Jury is still out and only time will tell we need to start to make better signing and sell players at the right time.

I kind of feel the two lads are being treated as scapegoats for juves being poor. I really hope they succeed they look like good lads!

There have been plenty of people and journalists that know Italian football, that think he's a very good buy and especially for the money.

This all sounds like a repeat of Kingsley Coman

Paratici scouted Coman as a 18yr old from PSG and signed him for free on 5 yr deal. Allegri did not know how to develop or use him and he then wanted Juve board to sell Coman and bring others. Juve let him go on laon+buy option to Bayern and rest is history.

When Coman initially left , Juve fans had the same reaction. Now, after 3+ years, they regret letting him go.

Its the same Allegri who isnt using Kulusevski correctly and once again Juve fans are on back of the player.

If both Bentancur & Kulu performs consistently under Conte and helps us to top4, watch the narrative change on its head.

I feel like if Conte is going to have good knowledge of a player it's going to be someone who's been a midfield starter for Juventus. If he's happy I'm happy.

Neither cost a lot between them so not too fussed about what Juve fans think. Obviously we've done a unique double deal here that only Paratici could have got done. Even if we pay the max on both players that's the cost of Ndombele. Provided both players work hard and it sounds like they both have great work rate then Conte will make quality players out of them. Look at how well Winks is doing for example and you can expect both to do great.

Yeah, I feel the same. He's only 24 years old but has already made nearly 300 appearances for Boca Juniors, Juventus and Uruguay (winning five league titles and a few cups along the way). That doesn't happen to a player with any serious deficiencies in his game.

There's definitely a lot of recency bias in the overall reaction to this signing. He's only had a slight dip in form, which could be for any number of reasons. If we'd managed to get him at any other point over the last 3-4 years I'm sure it would have been seen as a major coup for us.

Really hope he brings some control to the midfield, we have a lot of break up play players but not someone who can control and set a tempo. The Carrick or Dembélé type who can keep the ball and make it look easy.
