Hopefully we will have all 3 back in time, but I think it’s unlikely and we would be lucky to see them before feb

first African nations game is 13th so I guess the players leave start of Jan ?

Him and Lo Celso would be perfectly at home as a midfield pairing in Madrid or Barca. Personally, and this probably belongs more in the "controversial opinions" thread, but I think they are our best CM pair and I love the Bissouma/Sar pairing. So if he's back for the Afcon, then we might get the chance to see the South American pairing on a regular basis. I thought the first half an hour against Villa, when they are on the pitch together, we were magnificent.

Kind of January sounds like if everything goes well we will see them getting substitute appearances in the second half of the month. However if not then more likely early Feb.

My controversial opinion is that GLC isn't remotely as good as some like to think and certainly wouldn't be my first choice pairing. I think, when all are fit, Bentancur, Bissouma and Maddison gives us our perfect midfield balance.

No one is saying he starts? But he’s a good option to have

Well, we will continue this on Sunday evening after the Bournemouth game when he's likely to start.

Though I might suddenly realise I'm far too busy to post on here depending on the score and Gio's performance.

It’s not always about picking the best overall players - sometimes it’s better to pick the best players for specific roles.

I think maybe you could make an argument that Bentancur is a better option as a 6, than Bissouma, but that would be close. Bissouma offers slightly more defensive support, and Bentancur slightly better as a holding midfielder.

Sarr is better at the 8 role - given his ability to cover as much ground as he does - going forward, and tracking back. Bentancur is better at ball control and passing - but that specific role requires much more athleticism than even pre-injury Bentancur had, and it will be a bit less now.

And Maddison is clearly a better 10.

But for me, it’s less about who starts every game, but how much cover we can have both for rotation and also in-match substitution or even just setting up slightly different based on opposition. Maddison, Sarr, Bissouma, and Bentancur would all play loads even when all are healthy.
Said it before, will say it again. He’s a better 6 than Bissouma and a better 8 than Sarr. There’s also no basis for deciding he’s going to be less mobile going forward
