Rumour is he's having an operation in the summer and was playing with cortisone shots. More of a failure of our squad strength than a failure of his making.

Bit harsh to blame Mason. Blame Alli and Dembele for unnecessarily making themselves unavailable, or blame Pochettino/Levy for not ensuring that we had better depth in the squad.
Mason and Bentaleb were good last season, so our midfield depth, on paper, has always seemed fine. We now know that we need better options.

As I said in the Match thread, one of the negatives of not rotating a squad is that the fringe players aren't match fit or motivated.
Mason is not a terrible player, but in truth when everyone is fit he won't start, I think he would prefer to be played in a slightly more creative role.
In short Mason is not soley responsible

actually when you think about it, Mason wouldn't have even been playing if Dele Ali and Mousa hadn't got themselves suspended needlessly.

does that make those two more culpable for the last 3 games or less?? too exhausted emotionally to think about it

They were better than this season, but not great. There were several games where Mason and Bentaleb were walked all over by the opposition. It's the reason Dier got shifted to DM, and the reason many of us were desperate for Spurs to sign a new midfielder.

We were just lucky that Dier adapted so well to the position, Alli turned out to be a star, and Dembele stayed fit for so long.

He was poor but it's crazy to blame him for anything

That said - he really shouldn't have a future at spurs

If he does it will mean we are not moving forward to where we want to go

He should be making the same type of move huddlestone and Livermere made for the good of his career

We need to upgrade our options

Carroll will be gone too, I am sure Chadli also and possibly one of n'jie or son

I think it's hard to 'blame' them (not saying you are) for our defensive problems last season. The fact is that both are not defensive midfielders, I'm not sure that's their fault, it's just their playing style.

As you say, I'm not blaming them. I just think there were plenty of people saying they weren't quite good enough.

way too much responsibility for Mason today, but thats the problem with Mason, isnt it? certainly not his fault - if you are looking to blame someone Id begin with Alli and Dembele for putting us in the position in the first place.

Can see him doing well for a club like Bournemouth or West Ham. He's never top 4/5 quality though, and Poch must know that by now.

I think West ham are above his level but I could see him thriving at Bournemouth or one of the newly promoted clubs or a top championship team

Mason and Little Tommy 'Pussy foot' Carroll need to be upgraded in the summer.
Bents returning will be a boost and offer more decent cover but we need more creativity and steel as backups.
