‘Red and gold for life, know that’ - seems to mean that he won’t be joining Lille because of his love for their rivals, Lens, where he came through the youth system.

Dang, I got mixed up and was hoping that meant he was close to a return to Lens. Didn’t realise it was Lille who were rumoured. So we’re no closer to getting rid then…

... Or that despite joining their rivals, his love is still for his original club?

You can twist it whatever way to fit your own bias.

I hope this goes to show that you can tell these players to leave all you want, but it's not the club's fault if they choose not to go to those interested.

If he's willing to reject the supposed one club that comes in for him then he can't complain later on in season if he gets little game time. He obviously doesn't want to leave that badly.

before we all get on the guy back, we have to respect his loyalty to the club that helped produce him.

Personally I commend him for having such loyalty and a character to do so

If he doesnt leave he shouldnt be in one single match day squad until he goes.

Completely. Let’s not have hypocrisy after the Kane drama this summer!

I do love fans, we want loyalty when the player is doing well and producing the goods, yet we don’t want loyalty when we want them out the door?

Much like many others, there's a common theme for some that anything will be twisted into a negative/character-asassination

But this is a player who doesnt want to stay and the club dont want him to stay.

Therefore he isnt any use to us this season is he.

No problem with him wanting to leave but we dont want him to be loyal for another year because its stopping an incoming who wants to actually be at the club.

Why? He's twice the player that Doherty is and he's been a great pro during his time here

Not denying that. But he doesnt want to be here and the club doesnt want him here. And I wouldnt regard him as good enough to involve him anyway.

Like others before him- we offered a contract- he signed it and so did we as a club!
After his terrible issues with his brother, he really stepped up when we needed him. I don't get the dislikes etc for a man to do that he showed true character.
He may not be the best RB but I've seen nothing to say he's been anything but a model pro in his time with us.
OK so he might not leave (the only club is his hometown's arch rival- would you want someone going to Le Arse?)- why not include him if he trains hard, acts professionally and tries his best?
