He was literally at an exceptional level before Brighton.

He's had two games in the League and been quieter.

No biggie, I'm sure he'll be firing against City.

That's Sonny. Typical of his career at Spurs so far.

Goes on this golden streak where he cant stop scoring, high in confidence, but just like that, he suddenly plays like s*** with poor ball control et al, doesnt beat players anymore, hides in his shell and goes on a barren run.

After a while playing like this and dropped to the bench, he repeats the cycle.

He needs space to run in behind a back line. So naturally he finds it more difficult against sides that sit deep.

I'm not saying I'm surprised by it and I know it won't last because it never does, just saying that I'd hoped he would move on to the next level and be a bit more consistent this season, it's the only thing stopping him from reaching that very very top level for me.

Been our issue for years now, great with space, but close that space off and touch, speed of thought and decisions of a lot of our players are shown up.

Son, Moura, Sissoko, Dele, Lamela, Serge all 50/50 (some worse) with their first touch.

Coupled with taking too long to spot anything or assess what's around them and it can make for really poor periods of play.

I don't think he's been poor in the last couple of games. He's dwelled on the ball too much at times but he's doing a good job for the team. We just have to accept that sometimes the opposition will defend well and not give up much space. As long as he's still tracking back and working hard for the team he can go on the odd run of not scoring. I thought he did great in the EL off the bench anyway, just clearly thrives on space to run into.

This is probably the sole reason that he isn't more widely regarded as being world class. If he played at his best for a full season, he'd be racking up goal tallies to rival a 2017-18 Salah or a 2007-08 Ronaldo.
