Odegaard?

He's Arsenal captain and not exactly the Roy Keane aggressive type.

I'd rather have a captain who leads by example - Sonny would do exactly that

Is playing through injury to the detriment of the team leading by example? It could be seen both ways.

Agree the captain doesn't need to be an aggressive type.

The biggest plus point for me in bringing Sonny in as captain is my desperate hope that he'll make a return to the special handshake with each player.

Dammit I used to love how close that squad was 🥰

He's the ultimate welcome committee. I think that's why I would make him captain. He'll be great for new signings coming in and everyone likes and respects him.

I am sure this one Big Ange is building will be another close bunch if the attacking football bear fruits. Bar Son, we are a very very young, and perhaps hungry, squad.

Exactly. He's a world class player on top of a great human being. All our players will look up to him. He's the natural choice imo.

I love Son, a truly great player and loveable guy, but it doesn’t take much searching to find the words ‘coward’ and ‘lack of effort” when it comes to some of Sons performances in recent years. He was even called out on the pitch by Hugo ffs.

I want a captain who will run through walls and give his all. Son will do that occasionally, but will he do it when he’s carrying a knock?

He’s had years to step up, hasn’t proved that he’s captain material to me in that time.

He played through a broken arm at Villa and last season played through injury (groin I think) and playwd on with a mask. The Lloris one was an isolated incident where he didn't chase back after losing the ball. He's just not a Lamela type who gets stuck in. He doesn't lack effort and application though.

I dont think he does lead by example though. He's probably the most half arsed presser i've seen. Love him as i do he isnt a captain.

Totally agree with this. Don't want to talk bad of him as I love him as a player but he isn't the one to enforce the Ange tactics. Needs to be someone with tireless work rate and never say die spirit.

"Potentially [players will emerge]. All you can do is create that space and see what grows from there. There is sometimes that element where people supress themselves to an extent because they understand that there is a unique individual in the room that has such great presence and is such a force on and off the field," said Postecoglou.

"Having that space there maybe does [bring people out], but there's no guarantee it does either. The opportunity is there. Put it that way. With all these things there's opportunity. What you've got to try to do is what the great clubs do, the great organisations: replace greatness with greatness. How that comes about is not easy, but that's what the big clubs do. They find a way to sustain and maintain and grow even when the greatest leave their doors."

One player who has always stepped up when Kane has been absent in the past is Son, so could the South Korean star become a more central striker under Postecoglou?

"Yeah, I wouldn't rule it out. I've known Sonny for a long time and watched his career develop. There's no doubt he could play centrally, especially with the way we play," said the Australian. "That's where the nuances lie. Managers have different ways of setting up their teams and with some teams, I could see how Sonny couldn't play as a central striker but the way we play, and the way we're going to play, I definitely see him as an option as a central striker."

Remember when Pep called us the Harry Kane team then Son scored the the goal in the first QF match against City in the CL and Son went up to the camera and shouted "do you know who I am?".

Need that energy for this whole season.
