I just think he's wasted on the left. Yes his pace is diminished when teams park the bus but if we get a half chance in the box I want it falling to Son before anyone else.

Was amazed he stayed on the left when Richy went off.

Then when that doesnt work for a game, its ‘oh he needs to out on the wing he’s too isolated centrally’ rinse, repeat.
We were at our best with him up top. The issue is with inverted fullbacks you need the wide attackers to bring width and beat players outside. He can do it but not often enough. He was scoring consistently up top as well so it's not a reaction to today.

Playing wide just doesn’t play to his strengths. He isn’t and has never been a wide player, he was an inside forward for us previously.

He doesn’t have the technical ability, ball retention or dribbling ability to play out wide especially against teams who sit back.

As a striker he is deadly against transitional teams and even against teams who sit back if we had proper wide players we’d create chances for him.

But he was moved to the left because that's where more chances are. Ange said it himself

I think you have to give Ange the benefit of the doubt.

He is likely trying different things and some are not going to work out.

After today he may feel he got it wrong

I think the eye test tells you that the chances aren't falling from the left, so I do hope that Ange picks up on it. Richy doesn't score 9/9 playing where Son did today. We're trying to create chances in the middle of the box. Son scored most of his goals this season playing up top.

If I see Son get the ball 3/4 of the way up the pitch on the touchline too many more times I might cry, because it's an absolute waste of time. Rather it be Werner getting that ball and Sonny in the middle, because nothing comes of that play with Son getting the ball there.

Ange needs to give Sonny license to shoot. I cant believe im saying this, but he needs to, like he used to, shoot at goal instead of passing to players in better position.

Yea true but he also happens to be our best left forward and the only one who can cross a ball with his left foot

Yea I can't remember the last outside of the box curler he attempted. But also he doesn't seem to be able to create that space for the shot.

He seemed to be trying too hard yesterday.

Think the 2 week break will do him good to help him take a breath and reset after what has no doubt been a tough time for him mentally/emotionally.

The problem is the style of football. Ange want his wingers to hold max width, while our inverted wing backs push forward. So Son is basically a traffic cone on the left. He barely get into areas where he can shoot. And the few times he does get into those areas, its cluttered because our inverted wing backs is pushing forward. I can't understand why you do this to one of the most clinical finishers in the world. And even if we move Son into Richarlison position, we still waste Werner or someone else out on the wing, especially when we play against low blocks teams. When an inverted wing back push forward, its not the same as when a winger cuts inside and make a run into the box. Right now, its very easy to defend against us. I'm not saying Ange should scrap inverted wing backs, but maybe mix it up more? I feel like we are more extreme and more predictable than other teams using it.

Great analysis spot on.

I think next time we are struggling like that we should go back to Sonny up top.

But also we really miss a player like Solomon on the left who can create something and is super agile etc. Son and Werner and Richy and Johnson can all play LW but they are all pretty similar in terms of how direct they are and against space that is fine but against a low block it’s useless, that’s when you need more the likes of a Hazard, B.Silva, Foden etc.

Closest thing we have to that is Solomon but I’d also like us to sign a world class winger this summer one who can create something out of nothing also also beat their man easily.

Bale has that look which is like “I’m not that great looking but I’m tall and good enough looking that I’m going to pull tonight”

Dele is like “get me a table and a vodka sparkler and bring me ALL the girls”

Sonny is like, “woo what was in that punch we had before we came out, I can see 3 of everyone”
