My take on the situation is this: He hasn't earned a place in the starting XI, and Jose doesn't trust him to track runners so won't risk bringing him on if we're protecting a one-goal lead. If we're ahead by two goals or more, or alternatively are chasing the points, he'll be given opportunities to prove himself.

Ndombele has to earn back the manager's trust but that doesn't mean he's finished at the club if the situation doesn't warrant him being brought on.

I legitimately believe he's the most talented player on our team. The manager should be figuring out how to build the team around him and incorporate him rather than leaving him out like this.

But if he needs a DM to cover for him, and the manager hasn't got a single senior DM in the entire squad, what is the manager supposed to do?

Ndombele needs to prove that he can stay switched on when off the ball. Until he does that I think it's justifiable to leave him out.

I mean Lo Celso & Sissoko would be able to cover enough ground to accomodate for Ndombele against a team like West Ham...

You can't carry passengers these days unless you have a Kante/Ndidi/Florentino type who can cover the ground of two players. Even our attackers have to work hard off the ball. Ndombele has to prove that he can stay switched on IMO, it's just a part of the maturation that will be necessary for him to reach the level he's capable of.

I understand and I realize Ndombele carries plenty of blame in all of this. He clearly sulks when he isn't being backed like this and I'd just be interested to see if Mourinho backed him and started him a few games how it might turn around.

I'm not surprised he's not starting. Jose will want battlers starting out there against West Ham. He hasn't really shown that he's a fighter so far.

There's definitely the big concern that Mourinho's "confrontational leadership" style is ill-suited to the current generation of players. Ten years ago he might have provoked a reaction by dropping one of his biggest talents but I do think it's true that today it can just cause the player to be disillusioned. All the reports from the break were that Mourinho had brought him back on side but it remains to be seen how the two of them get on.

Seem's like that was just hot air fed to the media thus far.

I'm not willing to jump to conclusions. I think it's perfectly legitimate that he's not in the starting XI, and against United we were protecting a one-goal lead then holding on to the point. Losing would have been disastrous. It makes sense given the way the game played out that he wasn't brought on.

For tonight again I think it's reasonable that he hasn't started, and if the game plays out such that we're holding onto a fragile lead I won't be surprised if he doesn't come on. The fact that he's got to earn the manager's trust doesn't mean that the relationship is broken, or that he's finished at the club.

Mourinho has to be concerned with getting three points first and foremost. Ndombele is just going to have to prove that he can be trusted, or else his role will be limited to the situations that suit him.

I fucking hope it’s not another Salah/De Bruyne situation. Mainly because, unlike Chelsea, we can’t just go out and get another one.

No one, absolutely no one can convince me that Jose doesn’t like Ndombele for whatever reason. Not even Jose himself, I don’t believe anything he says. When you bring on Winks and Gedson instead of Ndombele you can’t conv me otherwise

Not looking good when winks is on ahead of you.

Ridiculous really, we'll really regret it if we lose him.

How much do you think we can get for him? Don't see any teams paying what we paid to secure his signature.

Really disappointing. There's no excuse this time, we had the points in hand and there were some players out there who were absolutely dead on their feet. It's as though Mourinho is going out of his way to snub him.
