He did OK.

I still think we would be much better off in a 433. It would suit everyone better except dele but ice said before he could play off the right.

N'dombele in a 3 could get further forward without having to worry about his lack of mobility in getting back.

Looks like its still going to be 4231 though.
We could still play a central 3 in Jose's system. Ndombele tucked in from the right with Hojbjerg and Lo Celso, Doherty pushed on wide right.

If Winks and Lo Celso are out, he might well play against Everton but I think Jose will go with Hojbjerg and Sissoko. In spite of his issues, i'd much rather Ndombele played that one because even walking he's better than Sissoko and he really needs the game time.

Yes this is exactly what will happen, unfortunately.

I think the United game is a good marker, if he can get 20/30 minutes here and there in prem games whilst also starting some europa/cup games and build towards then we can slowly build to him becoming a key part of the team come the time that united game rolls around. Alternatively Jose could just throw him in early.

This thread is now officially fucking annoying and no longer insightful or interesting.

He started for 45 mins in a friendly today, that’s a good thing and thats not really up for discussion.

I wonder if we have been forced to play 4231 by personnel available

Just watched episode 5 of All or Nothing. The best bit was when we signed Bergwijn and my wife who was sat next to me on the sofa said “that’s not the chubby one that doesn’t do anything is it?”.

Well it would be quite some thing if he turned around wouldn’t it ?
Or even if he rocked out on Thursday evenings and ran around the EL opposition sending us into the EL knockouts.

It just wasn’t his job to close the man, he held position to block a passing lane if anything. Anybody apportioning any sort of blame on him just clearly doesn’t understand how to play football.
The guy's so fat, if he keeps growing at this rate, he'll soon block the entire width of the pitch on his own let alone a passing lane

Just give him chances. I'm not his biggest fan but realize that he can become something special. Only way to do that is to let him play. I'm not gonna judge him until we actually see him for extended periods of time this season, something which he didn't get after lockdown for one reason or another.

Be well chuffed if he can show us what he's truly capable of on a regular basis.

Maybe, just maybe, we could actually have what would feel like a marquee signing this window to kick the season off.

I’m waiting for him to score a screamer then rip his shirt off to reveal the body of a sculpted ancient Greek hero model like Ginola did when Gregory called him fat.
