I think part of it is that he's an American that is good at a Sport that the rest of the world actually cares about. There is obviously real desire that he's the next big thing to get the Americans more invested where as a 20 year old European, South American, African etc isn't really a new thing.

Certainly has real talent, unsure Chelsea was the right club for his development but meh
