Anyone got the inside track on why he isn't playing much? Have there been any news articles about it in Turkey?

He's such a waste of talent, just watched him come on against a 10 man UTD so it's obviously not worth over analysing but he just oozes class when on the ball. I genuinely believe if he could apply himself correctly and put the effort in, he would be one of the best midfielders in the world. He never will as he's had so many chances and has failed every time, it's such a shame.

Did a great little bit of play at the end, passed, team mate gave it away - and he threw his hands up, head down and just trudged on when his team were seeing out a 3-2. Sums him up imo

All the talent in the world with a terrible mentality.

What a waste.

Could be one of the best in the world.

2 more years of grinding our teeth - and then we can turf him out on the pavement. What an awful piece of work...

Yeh this unfortunately. He has a lot of talent, amazing on the ball but off the ball he is a liability. It’s not just fitness or mentality, he seems to lack a lot of fundamental tactical awareness. But he’ll still win a title this year

How did Tanguy get in the champ lge of the season in the season before we bought him. I remember seeing him v Man City twice and he definitely looked worth the money.
6 year contract FFS. Chelsea could have serious problems with their 8 yr contracts . I hope they do.

He moved around a bit after the initial run around but always seemed away from the action and wildly gesticulating.

Genuine Q, was he performing well for Lyon over a decent period of time?
Was he playing 90 mins for them regularly?
How about his club before that?
He can't have just become like this since joining us unless he simple misses France in which case his agent should've found him a move back to France long-term.

Just a very odd situation and seems our scouts did a big whoopsie not properly analysing his character.

I somewhat remember he was but Lyon the fans generally thought he was often inconsistent and sometimes rubbish against the poorer teams because he didn't seem as motivated.

Also don't think the scouts are to blame here, but rather the decision-makers. I strongly doubt his character and history of poor application weren't presented to Poch, Levy, Hitchen & the rest in charge of the signing.

Ange is THE perfect manager for a player like him to thrive. The fact it didn't work straight away with him shows it will never will. If you can't be motivated for a manager like him you're in the wrong profession.

Ange wants hard work and team players as n.o1 so Tangy had no chance from the second Ange saw him first train.

Looking at Transfermarkt he was playing 90s regularly the two seasons before he joined. 19/20 his average minutes/game is pretty bad but he's also in & out with injuries a lot, 20/21 it's back up but only to about 65 minutes & it's been on the decline since. Last season his number of minutes is awful, didn't even break 800 minutes in the league and was only unavailable once (he somehow got 5 yellows over the season). A pretty steady decline in minutes (and I'd imagine general fitness) since 20/21.

Thing is I'm pretty sure he was one of /the player who Jose was caught doing training with in the park during lockdown so it doesn't seem to me like he's been unwilling to put work in even when it wasn't required, and didn't Ange mention he was training well before he got a knock? Makes me wonder if there's more to it than him just being happy to collect his wages and do the bare minimum.
