Agree with what you're saying but can't help but think Alderweireld is viewed as potential MF cover. The fact that he is virtually identical to Veljkovic is a bit confusing but maybe MV needs more time to convince.

I think MV will be a good player, but we need solid experienced partnerships at the back, not a season of tickering with potential up and coming defenders right now.

I'm getting the impression that the clause was only valid for the length of the agreed loan deal. Saints had until the start of July to get it done and they failed miserably. We aren't paying the £11/£12M because AM would have to pay saints £1.5M, its just because that's now the players valuation.

It had to be, otherwise they could enact that clause at any point in time in the future - which would never be the case.

Only last night did they find out for certain that it expired a week ago lol That's why Koeman was still confident of sorting a deal yesterday morning. One (or possibly two) morons couldn't read a contract properly and have been dismissed. Saints are bummed

Also (just my opinion) but I guess that's why Levy jumped straight on a plane last week and flew out to get a deal done quickly, before Saints realized how screwed they were.
