Comedy gold on the S'oton fans forum:

Saint IQ
Why any level headed top footballer would want to join them (Spurs) over us is baffling.

Wade Garrett
Only thing I've been told is that Toby really likes it at Saints, and his missus loves living here.
I reckon there's a deal to be done.

Sour Mash
I'd be surprised if Spurs can outbid us?

Viking Warrior
I have also spoken to my contact at Spurs . He says they are not in for toby.
But they said its just a couple of spurs fans who are floating this story to try to wind up Saints fans .
Seems like they be succeeding.

mattsbignose
I have been a Saints fan for 40 years and hope I have a fairly decent understanding of where we are compared with Spurs and Liverpool. Counting in our favour are the facilities, the current team (and the associated culture and ethos), Ronald and our ambition and professionalism.

corky morris

Toby going to Spurs will disappoint me more than Morgan & Clyne.

Saint_Tony
As I said before with Spurs, they are nowhere near a deal and from what I've heard Toby isn't interested.

St Chalet
From the brief ITK snippets I get from people associated with the club: Toby wants to join us, we want him, it depends on the price.

DT
This is a huge signing for us. Could be very emblematic of our attitude to moving forward, especially given Spurs' interest (a club i think we can and should be better than)

Daft Kerplunk

if it is a straight choice for him between Spurs and us as on the pitch they are the team we can overtake.

S-Clarke
I still think the Spurs stuff is agent trash, imo.

Roboze
Spurs can offer what ever they like, but if Toby dosen't want to go there it won't matter, last i heard he said he wanted to stay at Saints, Spurs wouldn't be a step up in my opinion.

pangy
We will be the laughing stock of football if he declines our offer and joins spurs

alpine_saint
It was bleeding obvious that if Toby had a good season we'd be f**king gazumped.

Nolan
43 points in 26 games with Toby = 1.65 ppg
17 points in 12 games without Toby = 1.41 ppg

SO16_Saint
Heard from a source who has been right in the past that things are still very much in our favour, spurs are not favourites.
We should have him on the bus by Thursday.

S-Clarke
I've never personally believe the ''Spurs are close'' stuff.

Batman
Spurs fans are generally very confident that he will be their player. They cannot comprehend why he would chose saints over spurs.

Saint_Abroad
Why would he even want to play for Spurs?

mrfahaji
All I know is that my hatred for Tottenham and Levy is increasing by the day, sure I won't be the only one feeling sick if he joins them.

Saint-Armstrong
Our anger, frustration and ire should be directly at Atlético, and not Toby Alderweireld, or even Tottenham.

Le Goddard
I don't think spurs are even that interested - They want Mario Suarez. He's their real target. Together Madrid and Spurs have tried to fleece us and while that's been going on AM have completely taken their eye off the ball. We will meet them half way today and a deal will be done. It's going to be a great statement to our competitors.

Pastor Patrón
Losing Clyne, Toby and Schneiderlin is easily as bad as losing Shaw, Lovren and Lallana. Absolutely abysmal by Saints if we managed to f#ck this one up.

alpine_saint
We are still a chickensh*t club in the scheme of things, it seems.
f*ck ambition and being well-run, brings us nothing.

Saint Charlie
Will be sad to lose him, especially to Spurs because he is a class player and they were close to us this year.

saintstan
I'm disappointed like others that it appears Toby is off to Spurs. Genuinely one of the best CB's I've seen Saints play with in 30 years watching them.

Sorry this about 20 pages back and bringing it up but my god they are seriously stupid down there. Who is the better option us or them well bugger me like choosing between premiership or league one ffs!

This will be easy to sort out with S-hampton; we swap our TA for their MS ! Why do Saints players have surnames that are impossible to spell, would be much easier if we bought Demba Ba.

If we are sure of Toby, then nail a quality DM we're well on our way to sorting our goal deficit column. Even last season without additions we scored plenty, I hope that doesn't lull Levy into thinking job done and we don't need attacking players, because we do. We were seriously lucky to have Kane fit for most of the season and firing on all cylinders, if that happens again it'll be a miracle.

Maybe that is why they manage to sign all these talented players, they are the only ones that can spell their names correctly on the transfer requests. Llalaallana, Waynamyama, Schiedejderlin, Aielderweierieeld.
