That’s the bit we can’t account for, any top player could play to their mid 30’s but not many do.
Central defenders often get better with age and playing up to 34/35 is not at all unusual at the top level. The problem perhaps lies in the speed allied with the tough schedule of games in the EPL. Is Toby fit enough? He is certainly good enough and his long passing is a weapon that we have missed this last season

That is a dangerous way to think. The style and pace of the game is evolving rapidly. The physical attributes required are much greater - particularly if the manager wants to play a high-line, and requires his defenders to play out from the back. It used to be that a defender could lose a step, but get by with guile. That is more difficult now.

I dont recall him putting a foot wrong his first 2 years with us, but we did fine without this last season. If hes gone we will be fine.

It just doesn't matter, we keep on selling our best players to a rival strengthening them and that's why we won't win the league, you would never see united selling a player any player to us ,and nither city

That’s because City and United pay top dollar so if there was ever a chance of them moving we couldn’t afford them.. They also buy the finished article on most occasions and play them during their peak years and then look to disregard once they become less effective and replace with the next ready made star at huge cost.. Players like Aguero, De Bruyne and Sane won’t be moved on until they are deemed as surplus. Look at David Silva.. He may go in the next year or so, but he’s had 5-6 peak seasons at city and he is now into his 30’s.

ESPN and some Belgian newspaper reporting that utd are about to pay the 70m fee for Toby.

Even if they’re paying that it still means making them stronger and us weaker.

If that 70m figure is true then there’s no excuses to not go and get De Ligt.

70m is nothing for a club like Man utd and they're going from smalling/Jones to Toby alderweireld. This deal was only acceptable if we were getting Martial or De ligt in return

Only both will do. We have to come out of the deal stronger than we started.

I suppose we'll soon find out. Mourinho will surely want it wrapped up before the tournament starts?!

If the info from Belgium should be true it would be a good time for Levy to pull the plug on the deal just when United think they have a deal. Plain and simple no Martial no deal.

I agree. I think we all know deep down that we will sell them alderweireld and not get Martial. It’s how it always works.

Edit: posted this before hertyid’s info in the itk thread. It’s no surprise.

70m? I call bullshit.

He is the best defender in the league, 50 million with add ons? Maybe.

Like trixs said if you buy early you pay a premium they might be thinking good World Cup he will be even more.

Sanchez is still a long way off Toby’s quality, I would worry if Sanchez has to play a lot of games with out verts, also it’s easier to play KWP a long side Toby with his Exp then Sanchez.
