Gutted to see him go. Was part of the best defence and spurs team in my lifetime when we came 2nd. He was an excellent centre back and wish him all the best. Time to look to the future now.

Also, I couldn't believe the comments when he first signed. People were expecting another Fazio. Bet a lot of people were glad they were wrong on that one.

In his peak for us I think he’s the best CB we’ve ever had in the modern era along with King. Jan a close 3rd but Toby was just so so assured and calm, incredible world class player.

Love Toby, some great seasons for us, can understand the move, however I will only be understanding if its swiftly followed by the exits of Sanchez and dier, cos a ageing Toby is still miles better

Brilliant player for us no doubt - personally I think Jan edged it and was the best but these two together made such a wonderful partnership.

you rate sanchez and dier better than toby?

Deleted the post - but no, obviously not. I do, however, think there’s no reason to spitefully call them clowns, however little you rate them. Every single centre back was shit for us last year, except Rodon, who didn’t get much of a look-in. Toby was well below his best but gets a free pass due to the credit he’s built up during his Jan-Toby years.

We need a massive overhaul of the centre backs, undoubtedly, but Toby is on the downward spiral - Sanchez is still younger than Jan was when we signed him, so does have some upside, whether he fulfils that with us is another question. He’s never been a ****, or spoke out in the press, or acted disrespectfully to the club - so I find it quite distasteful how some on here are desperate to drag him through the mud in every thread on the site.

I'm not sure. Jan started well for us. Then tailed off. Then Toby came in, and the rest was history.

Whilst I think the timing is right for Toby to go if we can get a decent transfer fee and a high earner offer the pay roll, I do worry that we don’t seem to have any leaders / organisers as centre backs.

if we are signing young defenders with potential with no PL experience, it’s a bit of a worry.

Last season we had Dier, Sanchez, and Toby as our 'experienced' CB's and we were shambolic defensively.

Experience is overrated. It's all about ability at the end of the day.

He was a great player for us but now is the right time to sell him.
Good luck to him, sure he will do great over there.

One of the best Spurs defenders of the modern era. A good deal at the right time at the end of six years of service though. All the best to him.
