I saw and posted a few posts in the Roden thread, but feel this is a separate debate, about when players change their numbers after being on sale with many supporters having the old numbers on their backs.
My take on this is for the smaller sizes (kids), the club offer an exchange, but sorry to the bigger/ older people live with it~ things change.
Alternatively, the youngsters are offered say an autographed photo or something similar, possibly then they could live with the wrong number, saving the club the costs of a shirt for a stamp and a photo. While at the same time younger fans~ the future of the club, will feel affection instead of possibly losing face to their mates.
Onions n all that.

I don’t really mind for me. I bought a Romero 4 from the club store a few weeks back. My one gripe when I think about it was that it was a shirt they had pre printed! Maybe until numbers are confirmed, they don’t print any shirts outside of lloris, Son, and Kane?!

In the US some leagues have something called "Jersey insurance" it's free and if someone you buy gets traded within a month of purchase (could be wrong on exact time) they will exchange it no questions asked

I think the club should be doing this.
Leave it open so people could input Lloris 1 etc if they wanted to, but until they confirm numbers just don't offer them.

Agree. Everyone is free to ask for whatever printed themselves, but there is some sort of commitment when the club themselves do it, in the short window between new kit and squad numbers!

I got caught out once when Keano left for Liverpool. Bloody annoying.

They do seem to take no responsibility on personalised kits, it almost like it is a service offered but if its wrong or changes then shit happens.

Sometimes the players offer a swap over, I think I recall adeybayor said that anyone who bought a shirt with his 25 on before VDV left and then he swapped to 10 he wld get them a shirt. I reality a fairly safe bet it wasn't gonna bankrupt him :D

I learned the hard way to not have a number until they're confirmed. I got burnt the year Bale moved on from 16. They should sell numbers for a specific season only.

Only last weekend the Spurs shop at the stadium had Romero 4 shirts on sale.

As my Mrs says every birthday, " it's only a number darling " My response is " yeah, but it's a f****** big one"

Wonder what they will do with them? Back of a lorry?
A few years ago (at the new stadium) they had an area selling the previous seasons kits discounted etc.
Probably do something similar at one of the first home games this season

Players should play on their positional numbers. Custom numbers are just ego, and football is a team sport

Maybe will not be bankrupt so well done to him for the gesture.

How many times did Kane change numbers.

Twice, 37 -> 18 (for a season) -> 10 which he’s had since 2015.

I’d be amazed if the club doesn’t swap any Romero 4 shirts bought direct, given it’s so rare for established players to move from a 1-11 number. At least they announced it as soon as they knew…

I put in another thread about my son wanting Skipp on the back of his shirt, I told him not to as he might change and choose someone else.... so he chose Romero. FFS haha

I've emailed the club about this and got a very blaise reply saying their T&Cs state that its not their problem basically.

I'm pretty sad to be honest, though we had a bit more class than that. I've supported the club, and by that i mean gone to games, been a seasn ticket holder, bought almost every shirt up until i was too fat to wear them, now my son gets that joy for over 30 years.

As someone pointed out, its not for them to tell players not to change numbers but to sell them personalised when there is a chance a £60 shirt is out of date with in 2 weeks is a bit off.

Really expected more of this club.

Playing devil's advocate here, it does say on the website:

Additionally, we will not be liable for any changes to:

Players' names and/or numbers due to transfers, including where a player leaves Tottenham Hotspur
A personalised name or number being incorrectly selected at the time of order
A player's decision to change the number or name printed on a matchday shirt
Players' names and/or numbers worn between the pre-season and the season proper. (Please note that numbers worn by players during pre-season are not confirmed squad numbers for the season prois per.)

I'm not sure people can really complain given that they clearly say they're not liable. Player numbers do change during pre season with players coming and going, so surely the answer is to wait until end of pre season before buying a shirt to avoid any issue?

Do agree with you, it does say clearly

But in which case they should push it so much in your face to buy the kits early etc

I won't be making the mistake again anyhow.

Its just that other clubs have been a bit more classy about things in the past and we never seem to be. Which is a shame

I hate stuff like this. The club should be "more classy" because you couldn't wait until numbers are confirmed.

What you're asking the club to do is write off $100 (of which they don't get most of) because of your error, and take back a shirt that's now outdated and they can't resell. Not to mention the number change was made pretty much on the first day of preseason training, it's not like they did it at the absolute end of the window.

Just a quick question: Is there a way of safely removing either the name or number - which ever is easiest? - to then have the removed name or number re printed correctly? I know the numbers seem to come off over a number of years, just wondered if there was a way to safely speed that up?

Ok, they won’t get done out of any $, only £.

It wasn’t that I couldn’t wait, it was my 7 year old sons birthday. I’ll ask God to make it after pre season starts next time that happens.

I also said I agree with it, just that it’s annoying. So not sure why you feel the need to comment like you did.

I also don’t expect you have “written off” anywhere near the probable tens of thousands of POUNDS on the club that I have over the years. So maybe it doesn’t grind you as much as it does me. And before anyone says I got something back for my money… 90’s…..

And my “classy” comment is only said in respect to what other clubs have done recently in similar situations, the most recent being United with Cavani.
