Aston Villa are good and in a great position now, I'd have them as among the 5-7 best teams, but they definitely have the opportunity to deliver even better now.
Reason why they are now talked about as possible challengers though are down to how fortunate they've been with the timing of games against City and us.
Don't forget that Newcastle absolutely schooled them earlier in the season. Feeling when we faced them was that it's a team that wouldn't be able to handle our full strength team.
And City already stumbling, we took out Rodri, Grealish and Doku for them - I've said it before City doesn't have the depth so many claim, they've chosen to have a smaller squad.

And they're still in a position where they are unlikely to go down because there are some worse teams in the league and Everton have to catch up by 10 points. But it does feel very end of the road all the same.

Cooper will be back. Maybe even at Palace now that Roy's managed to turn half the fanbase against him and more are putting themselves on the fence.
I think I read somewhere that Steve Parish is a longtime admirer.

This. They faced us just when we had Romero suspended and Madders and VdV injured. They faced Citeh when they had Rodri and Grealish suspended plus Doku injured.

they got schooled not only by Newcastle but Liverpool were cutting through them everytime when they played them, scored 3 but could have been 6.

Two weeks before we played them they lost to a poor Nottingham Forest.

We could have been 2 or 3 up and ony got caught out due to our lack of centre backs. No way Watkins scores their winner with Romero and VdV on the field because he doesn't get behind them.

Then only a few days ago they were about to get beat by an average Bournemouth team.

Emery's high line works at home where the energy translates across the pitch and fans.

Away from home they are very vulnerable to gettign caught out.

They will improve but they played City and us at exactly the right time to play them.

As mush as I don't want it to happen, Arsenal will catch them out.

Watching Everton v Newcastle before our game and at the moment it's just a cycle of Everton chance and Dyche clapping. 😂

Nice one, Everton! A howler of a mistake from Tripps. Not quite "passing the ball past our own keeper into the net against Chelsea" but not far off.
