After thinking about it - I think I would rather us sign Raphinha than Richarlison tbh

He's a better winger/creator and he'd have more chances to make an impact there. Whereas Richarlison is at his best as a number 9 and his chances to play there will be extremely limited with Kane playing pretty much every game if fit.

I just don't see the value of spending £60m on a Kane backup - as Richarlison is nowhere near as effective shoe-horned onto the wing.

It's still 4 million per goal scored - seems highly inflated even though I really do like him. Just feel with some good scouting we could get 2 players as good for the same price (see bissouma, kulu, etc.)

If we spunk star fees I would expect someone who is either a star already or has the potential to be a world beater.
You may need to change what your perspective is of a ‘star fee’. That’s closer to 100mil in this market.

I think 4 forwards and Moura is enough tbh. If more than one gets injured or fatigued we can always switch to 3-5-2

I always felt that a wing forward that could play up front was our best option. It would give us someone who could rotate with both Kane and Son across all competitions. A wing forward like Raphinha is fine, so long as we feel that Kulusevski can play up top. He's young, so of course he can adapt, but if we go for Raphinha then I'd still feel more comfortable with a #9 of some description in the squad.

He absolutely has the potential to be a world beater. And with better players around him those numbers will rocket.

I think it’s overkill. You’d have three players for that RWF position with only really Kulu suited to playing anywhere else. I’m not sure we would get the best out of Kulu moving him around the positions either, wasn’t that part of his issue at Juve?
Yeah, you could be right.

I was just thinking aloud after WLB suggesting we may not be going for a no. 9 type.
Can Raph and Antony not play both sides? (seen very little of Tony).
Maybe that's why Richarlison makes sense.

I'm pleased I don't have to come up with a solution because at the moment, I want everyone!

I'd rather get raph in and have Troy and Gill for cover. When would they get their chance otherwise ??‍♂️ Maybe that's why Conte wants to have a good look at the lads before deciding

isn't there a pattern forming though ross ? DIAZ and now Raphinha we want a wizard forward type in the mould of a mane salah its about options . richarlision is more in the mould of a 9 but can deputise lw or rw from his early days very similar profile to Jesus. if i was a betting man right now i think raphinia is more achievable then richarlison but thats just my view
Thanks

Personally I think it would be better for the squad to have both rather than a big man

Do we ? Son can play there it’s far easier to add forward quality then a no 9 who will sit on the bench

Would Conte be happy with that, though? He's been clear in the past that he doesn't see Son as a striker, and for someone trying to build a title winning squad I don't think he'd be best pleased having a couple of players "who could do a job there" should Kane get injured. I agree it doesn't necessarily need to be a pure number 9, but if we sign Raphinha I definitely think we'll need someone else capable of playing as a striker.

We're going to really struggle if we sign Raphinha only with no Kane backup. We could spend £150m net on players elsewhere and still throw our season down the toilet by not having a proper number 9 in the event of Kane tiredness or injury.

We have to have another option who can play as a 9 and isn't Son in a normal season, never mind the next where the schedule is mental. Richarlison would be that, Raphinha wouldn't and neither would Lucas or Kulusevski.

I don't love our options for a 3 man midfield is the problem. Which is in part why Eriksen made so much sense.

I guess PEH - Bissouma - Bentancur might work?

Wouldn’t rule out Parrott turning some heads in preseason. He could flourish with the talent we have here around him. He didn’t look out of place on the pitch in Poch’s 2019 preseason and has developed significantly since.

Nuno’s preseason was a joke.

Richarlison can cover both Son and Kane though so he will get decent playing time considering our Champions League campaign. He also offers direct running and movement in behind that only Son currently does.

Son, Lucas, Kulu, Raphinha is about as solid 4 for the forward department as you can get. I actually think with City's and Lpool's rumored exits we'd be right up there next to them with their options left (of course they will probably add):

Spurs: Son/Kulu/Raphinha/Lucas
City: Foden/Mahrez/Grealish/? - - - Sterling/Jesus (both rumored to go)
Lpool: Salah/Jota/Diaz/Elliot?
Arse: Saka/Smith-Rowe/Martinelli
Chelsea: Werner/Ziyech/Pulisic/Hudson-Odoi - - - Sterling/Dembele (rumored in)

Think many are forgetting Perisic could be pushed further forward with Sess LWB if required at times.

I just have a hunch we're not going for him with that much conviction. I could be completely wrong, but I think:
- Conte prefers the more prosaic style of Richarlison...
-...who can also cover for Kane
-...and the price for Raphinha is mentally high

I could be wrong. I'd really like to get him, I think he's more exciting than Richarlison, but who knows?

It's crazy how much Arsenal are spending though - surely that's got to start biting at some point?

Hopefully he does well but I can't see Conte trusting him to play a significant amount of minutes. We need to bring in someone that will mean Conte doesn't feel like he has to run Kane into the ground, whether Parrott is the answer remains to be seen. We'd have to be confident in starting Parrott in 5/6 league games next season, and 3-4 cup games at a minimum depending how far we get.

A pertinent point is how much more of a threat we'll be at set pieces and not collectively groaning when we see Kane line one up.

It's also another reason why I think this transfer renders our need for Eriksen more redundant.
