Whether Barca will bid for Raphinha is entirely down to Dembele. If Dembele agrees to a new deal, then Barca will not go for Raphinha. If not, they will make a deal with Leeds.
Barca can’t even afford to register their free agent signings in kessie and chritensen and they want lewa and are messing him around a fair bit so how they will raise £50million for raphina in a week is beyond me. Barca did vote to selling its tv rights deal or something last week for a fair few hundred million but i imagine that will take a while to get sorted so unless he is willing to wait until the end of the window to see if he can go to barca i cant see them doing anything with him imminently.

maybe the gooners have jumped ahead of us maybe on wages or maybe choice... how do you figure that
Just by the way WLB seemed quite bullish about our bid and waiting to see next week even confronted with what was coming out of the gooners side to then saying well if they do get him then it could be about wages. I have no evidence and could be wide of the mark here but with some of the news on the Everton side saying we have made contact over Richarlison and WLB not seeming as confident then maybe I have put 2 and 2 together and got 6.

personally... I don't see this happening.

His heart is with Barcelona, so he will wait and see if they make a bid for him.

even if he doesn't get his dream move and moves to another club, his heart is still with Barcelona.

think a lot has been said that Conte wants players who are fully committed to the project, I am pretty sure even though we get him, he will still want to move to Barcelona if/when the opportunity arises.
He will know already if Barca will make a bid.

Remember how I said the transfer window needs to be looked at as fluid? That you have a plan of sorts but sometimes an opportunity becomes possible, or because a deal for a player in a different position isn't possible so it pushes you in a different direction.... Well that may be the case with this one.

Thanks, Trix! It'll be interesting to see if that means that we've shifted from Richarlison to Raphina (or vice versa), or that someone else has popped onto our radar suddenly.

Whether this means Richarlison isn't do-able so we're going after Raphinha, or Raphinha isn't available so we're going after Richarlison, I'm happy with either. Of course it might mean neither is available and we're signing Andy Carroll.

I’m thinking more the 2nd option

I may be wrong, but I took it to mean that we weren't planning on going for Raphinha, but that because the expensive LCB deal for example hasn't materialised, we are looking at possibly spending the money on Raphinha....maybe also because Eriksen isn't coming, we are thinking not to bring in a like for like and instead bring Raphinha in and maybe Richarlison too (ok that bit is probably dreaming).

I’ve got a feeling we’re starting to worry Everton are going to be a pain with the fee they’re demanding for Richarlison and don’t want to drag it out until deadline day, so we’re going to go for Raphinha as it’s a more straight forward deal we can get done

This is the answer I reckon.

I can't imagine Raphinha was on our original list of targets once the season ended.

We probably thought he was off to Barca and are now willing to spend big on him because Bastoni isn't moving now.

Yeah re reading that could be possible, think it’s one of them where you could make it fit whichever way you’re looking at it

I seem to recall someone who’s itk saying something about missing out on for example Bastoni, could mean we’d invest heavily in a different area of the team as our first and second choices in defence don’t pan out. So maybe we are pushing the boat out in attack and spending less on defensive cover or something.

I may be misremembering though and I’m watching a film so this might only make half sense.

Yeah and also another factor which might be way off but I will run with anyway, maybe we are looking at both Richarlison and Raphinha, because Bastoni didn't happen, and Eriksen isn't going to happen. So instead of the attacking midfield signing, we bring in both Brazilians and then sign a cheaper LCB option as back up / rotation with Davies.

Son/ Kane / Kulu / Richarlison / Raphinha / Moura

I don't think that's overkill if you are looking to win a league title and fight in all comps personally. Especially as Moura will probably leave next summer.

Then, next window you can focus more on CB and get one of the major targets you wanted, like Bastoni or Gvardiol or whoever else.

God that would be the dream ?

Richarlison and Raphinha would be similar fees though?

Yeah but we were always planning on signing one anyway, the other is the Bastoni money used instead.

And then the money we would have spent on maybe a cheaper striker to back up Kane, is instead spent on LCB.
