BBC Live Text
1618:GOAL- Reading 0-1 Tottenham - Jermain Defoe (17 mins)
Tottenham lead and you can't say they don't deserve it. They've been the better side in the opening 17 minutes. Aaron Lennon's pace takes him away down the right following a pass from Gylfi Sigurdsson and his pull back is stroked into the far corner of the net by Jermain Defoe from inside the box. Andre Villas-Boas stands to applaud on the touchline. He'll be very pleased with the way his team have started this match. Reading have work to do.
1648:HALF-TIME Reading 0-1 Tottenham
1729: GOAL - Reading 0-2 Tottenham - Gareth Bale
Tottenham finally claim the elusive second goal their display deserves as Kyle Walker shows determination on the right to find space and cross for Gareth Bale to find the back of the net from 12 yards with a scuffed shot that loops into the net with Alex McCarthy committed to a dive. It is perfectly timed from Spurs' point of view as Reading had looked to building up a head of steam. Surely that is game over.
1732: GOAL - Reading 0-3 Tottenham - Jermain Defoe
That is game over. Tottenham break away with Jermain Defoe in possession and he is bought space by Gareth Bale's run to dart into before firing a shot into the far corner of the net past Alex McCarthy. AVB slams his fist into the air in triumph.
1748: GOAL - Reading 1-3 Tottenham - Hal Robson-Kanu
Reading do get their consolation. Two substitutes combine as Adam Le Fondre chips a cross to the back post where Hal Robson-Kanu is waiting to acrobatically volley in. It won't change the way the points are going but it does give the home fans something to cheerv about. The Tottenham defence switched off there. Something AVB won't be happy about.

Two sides searching for that first Premier League win of the season

It may be early in the season but Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas will be keen to relieve the pressure with a win at Reading on Sunday.
The Spurs coach has endured a difficult start to his reign with a defeat at Newcastle being followed by disappointing draws at home to West Brom and Norwich.

With questions about his man-management skills resurfacing in recent weeks, Villas-Boas will be anxious for a first win of the season live on Sky Sports 1 HD.
The newly-promoted Royals are also searching for their first win of the campaign, albeit from just two games after their away fixture at Sunderland was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Brian McDermott's men produced a spirited display in the defeat at Chelsea and secured a late draw at home to Stoke on the opening day.
With eight wins from their last 10 home games their form at the Madejski Stadium surely provides the best hope of survival this season.

Reading
Jimmy Kebe is back in contention after the winger missed the start of the campaign with a hamstring problem.
Adam Federici is expected to retain his place in goal despite emerging as a slight fitness concern.
All of McDermott's players have safely returned from international duty, meaning Jason Roberts is the only absentee due to his calf complaint.

Tottenham
Villas-Boas could be tempted to ring the changes with a number of new signings pushing for a starting place.
Mousa Dembele and Emmanuel Adebayor came off the bench against Norwich but could be in the team at the Madejski Stadium, while Hugo Lloris will hope to claim the No 1 spot from Brad Friedel.
Tom Huddlestone is available for Spurs despite his sending off against the Canaries, after his red card was rescinded on appeal.

Adam Federici is likely to be available for Reading despite pulling out of Australia's squad this week with a knee problem.
But the game may come too soon for Jimmy Kebe, who returned to training this week.
Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas has opted to start with Brad Friedel instead of new signing Hugo Lloris in goal.
Clint Dempsey could also make a first appearance following his deadline-day switch from Fulham.

You could forgive Reading fans for forgetting that the football season has even started. It's so long since they played a league game that their matches against Stoke and Chelsea must seem a distant memory.
Chelsea's European Super Cup commitments, a storm in Sunderland and the international break mean that 25 days will have elapsed between Reading's defeat at Stamford Bridge and their kick off against Spurs. At least a narrow League Cup win over Peterborough kept the troops in trim.
Reading should be encouraged by their start - if they can remember it. They were good value for their point against Stoke and were in the lead at Chelsea for 40 minutes, only falling behind to an offside goal by Fernando Torres.
Whilst Royals fans have been waiting for something to happen since then, Tottenham supporters have felt their brows gradually furrowing. Points were dropped at home to West Brom and Norwich, Modric and van der Vaart have gone, Dempsey and Dembele have arrived, but AVB's first win has not.
Another arrival at White Hart Lane is France goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris, who will have to wait for his debut after Villas Boas declared that Brad Friedel would remain his number one for the time being. Lloris admitted it was "not nice" to hear, but he's probably now painfully aware that Friedel has made 307 consecutive Premier League appearances. It's a sequence which takes in spells at Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa as well as Spurs.
Now aged 41, Friedel is one of the nicest, and one of the best, professionals around - but even the greats cannot overcome time's winged chariot forever. He is after all six-and-a-half years older than his manager - and that just might be another record.

Head-to-head

  • Spurs are unbeaten in their last five league and cup games against Reading.
Reading
  • Reading did not fail to register a win in the first three games of their previous two Premier League seasons.
  • A goal for the Royals would be their 50th at home in the Premier League.
  • Reading managed just 19 home goals in their last Premier League campaign (2007-08) - the second lowest in the division that season.
Tottenham
  • Tottenham have won just one of their last 11 Premier League away games.
  • Andre Villas Boas has won only three of his last 15 Premier League games.
  • Aaron Lennon is poised to make his 200th Premier League appearance for Spurs.

Really need a win here or else I fear aVb will pull his skin off to reveal a rat eating Juande Ramos.

Well, so the "We're still better than Arsenal this season" bandwagon could be silenced if we muck up against Reading.

If we don't win this, we'll be 6 points behind 4th and in the relegation zone.

Hopefully there's no tactical fuck ups by AVB like the previous games...
