Gareth Bale has been in scintillating form in recent weeks to establish himself as a key man in Jose Mourinho's squad, though his revival has not affected Real Madrid's transfer plans

Don't we have the option for a second year?

Interesting I'm not sure how much we can trust press stories I did think we had an option but maybe we will lose him he is too expensive for us to buy outright.

Surely his wage demands would put him way out of our reach, even if we could afford it I would be uneasy about one player earning so much more than the likes of Kane and Son, who could earn so much more at other clubs themselves.

I'm pretty sure we do have the option of a second year.

There are conflicting reports from different sources, some saying the loan was just for one season without an option His RM contract ends in June 2022. They won't want him back at their club next season costing them £600k weekly. Let's hope DL can negotiate a deal with Real Madrid and/or Bale. It would be a bummer if he went to another PL club next season.

Eventually, Gareth Bale will need to decide whether playing out his remaining career at a club he enjoys and is a valued part of the team is more important than earning £600k/week.

I'm sure he and his agent, Jonathan Barnett, will negotiate fiercely to milk as much out of any transfer as they can in terms of salary, but they'll be dealing with Daniel Levy. Bale can go back to Real Madrid, get richer and not play, or he can move to Tottenham, get a bit less richer and play football in a team he loves.

He compromises or he loses. He knows that. So does Barnett. So does Levy.

At this point for him can there really be any difference between 600k a week and 200k a week? Him and his family are set for life a hundred times over.. always baffles me this salary milking..

That's £20m difference over a year, it's a huge difference.

Yes I realise there is a difference between the two numbers, I meant when you are already so wealthy there would be no change to his and his family’s lifestyle or ambitions. Maybe not, what do I know..

It is and it isn't. Bale has won everything there was to win, and could potentially win more if he plays. It's like Dudek when he moved to Real after Liverpool to be no. 3 and not to Benfica where he would have been number one. Already a multimillioner he decided to sacrifice his reputation for a little extra cash.
It's their life but at this stage in Bale's career, if I were him and sitting on tens of millions of pound in the bank, playing would be way more important to me.

I was under the impression that his £600k a week contract runs out at the end of next season. If he wants to continue to earn that salary he can stay at Spurs with us subsidising his wages or he can stay at Real Madrid where he is unlikely to play and I believe the fans hate him.

So we have given him the option to continue playing and not losing out on money. Hopefully he'll stay here one more season.

He'll be 33 next summer. If he wants to continue playing then unless he goes to China he'll never earn that again.

From June 2022 he won't have the option of earning £600k per week. Who would offer him that once his contract at Real has run its course?

Yes, but the question is whether we would have him here on a permanent transfer for next season, if the alternative is that he goes back to Real Madrid. For next season, he may be forced to choose between a substantial pay cut and regular first team football at Tottenham, or megabucks and the bench at Real.

Bale would only go back if either we, or he doesn’t want to extend the rolling option in place currently. RM don’t have right to recall him.

The third option after returning to Madrid or staying with us is that another club offers Madrid a transfer fee and wages higher than what we can

We would take him on loan next season, not a permenent transfer. I can't see us offering to buy him in the summer when we can get him cheaper by loaning him if he wants to stay another year. We may even have an option for a 2nd year on the same terms (edit - see AllyG vid below).

If he choses to go back to Real next season then he won't need a pay cut as they'll still be paying him 100% of his wages. Likewise if he goes out on loan to us or anyone else for the final year of his contract he won't be getting a pay cut whilst Real still own him.

The was an article a while back where it said that Real want us to pay more of his wages if he stays a second year. That might be a game changer if true.
