Was fairly inevitable. It's absolutely impossible for referees on the field to get a clear view of every incident so whether they'll admit it or not there's always a certain amount of guesswork involved based on what they think they might be seen. If they're not sure one way or the other, when 40k people are calling it one way, it's psychologically more significant to say "I know better than every single one of you" and give it the other way than it is to just go along with what everyone else thinks so a lot of the time they'll chicken out.

I'll admit it. I use the reactions of the players to decide things numerous times per match.
