I don't have a problem with the fact that he hasn't been a professional footballer for that long. If Ange trusts him and he fits the profile in an area where we're short, then he must be worth a punt. His release clause can't be that high, can it?

Harry winks was superb then. I'd love that winks back. However he never looked the same after his ankle injury.
I do wonder what he’ll be like now he’s had surgery. He was terrible from his injury onwards, but was that down to us pushing him to carry on playing through discomfort because we didn’t have anyone else in that position.

In his defence, him, Ndombele and lo celso have looked poor under conte, and Jose.

Ball playing midfielders have struggled under these two, as they value physical players over technical ability.

The two things that make this not underwhelming for me;

1) Ange will know the player as well as anyone - so we should back him.
2) The initial rumours were Brighton were interested in replacing Macallister with him. And I trust their scouting and recruitment more than ours.

Inevitable links to Celtic players but does display that Ange will be backed necessarily with the personnel he believes in and can theoretically adapt quicker.

Hatate as a 6 but also looks to have a left side bias so perhaps a rotation option with Udogie or in tandem.

We laugh, but his first choice from Japan went to brighton:

Not to doubt him but its a bit easier to say it after the fact, thought it was going to be a quote from back when the transfer happened!

I too, thought mitoma was going to be a massive success at brighton....

There’s something to be said of having players who understand the system they’re supposed to be playing even if they’re not of the very highest quality. Ryan Mason was never the best player but he immediately got what Pochettino asked him to do and that allowed him to do a job until we progressed into a better version of that side. With the massive unknowns around what Bentancur will be like when he eventually returns this could be pretty smart.

I read somewhere that Postecoglou has a good knowledge of the Asian market so maybe it shouldn't come as a surprise if we tap into that somehow.

Yes please a wonderful little player. He would be brilliant in a 3 man midfield or even as a 10. Can't believe he only has 1 cap for Japan, they must have some seriously talented midfielders if that's the case.
Japan has often not picked their "best" players, and instead rather pragmatically pick their team to best fit the collective.
They can be fairly narrow-minded if a player doesn't fit what they think a player "should" be.

Or, perhaps just Google it, here are some quotes from mitoma:

Good player and one who would know and instantly fit into the new system which should speed the process up in terms of us transitioning to front foot play

My response was based on the comments from Ange as opposed to anything else - thinking he'll be a useful addition to the celtic squad isnt quite the same as thinking he'll be a massive success (at least to date) in the prem.

The difference between the two is the precise reason why so many are debating whether we should go in for the celtic players, with many on both sides of the fence in the relevant player threads.

Watched a few clips of him (i know I know) but in every clip he was incredibly lucky to beat the press, rebounds etc and in dangerous areas which he just won’t get away with in the prem. no doubt he can strike a ball with both feet well. Ange will know him and need to back him but it would look a massive step up to the physicality of the prem.
It would need to be a cheap release clause.

Doesnt Ange play with 2 8's and DM?

Personally I’m not entirely convinced, I think it’s very risky taking players from Celtic and there are others I’d prefer for the 8 position.
Hmmm... People keep saying Mitoma from Brighton is a class act... before Brighton he played for Kawasaki and was loaned out to Union St. Gilloise in Belgium... why is that any different to Hatate at Celtic ? ... we didn't know about Mitoma until his breakthrough under De Zerbi... why can't Hatate do the same under Ange... and he already knows him ?
