Yep, tells you everything. Put little details within the stadium as a nod to the old WHL that don’t get in the way, but we can’t be cluttering up the outside with a homage to our legends that put the club on the map in case it gets in the way of our other “commercial partnerships”.

As Keith Burkinshaw famously said, “there used to be a football club over there”.
Yes but now Levy is on the ropes & rocking he talking about statues for Kane.

He really hasn't a clue, will say anything at anytime to get what he wants

So... every thread here is going to be taking jabs at Levy now?

I'll be taking a break then until all of this hysteria dies down - fed up with it.

Is it not worth highlighting the hypocrisy of the club. It's the main reason we are in position we are now.

This thread is very specifically dedicated to our greatest ever player and to allow people to reflect on his life. This sort of single issue, boorish stuff doesn’t belong here.

If you've not seen Greavsie live as I was fortunately around at his time, thought I'd tell you that BT Sport have a documentary on their channels which gets occasional outings. I have recorded it to watch when I can as often as I can.
If you have BT Sport then maybe there's a way of searching for it.

I’ve been searching for this for a while as I always thought it was called ‘who’s the best’. I just watched the episode again and it’s who was the greatest striker between Greaves and Rush. They take a footballer from the (then) current crop and pit them against a legend of the past. A celebrity argues who’s the greatest on behalf of each player and a jury of 12 give their verdict at the end. Brian Moore is the host.

So Greaves had Ted frickin Rogers and Rush had, guess who, Stan fucking Boardman.

Rush won. 🤦🏻 This is because Boardman was cracking jokes left right and centre and the jury were cracking up. Both celebs were allowed 2 witnesses each and Boardman did well here because whilst Rogers chose Bobby Robson and Denis Law, Boardman chose an ex team mate of Greaves (Mike England) and an ex Spurs (and Liverpool) player Ray Clemence. So having them on definitely swayed the jury. Mike England was Wales manager at the time…..

Forget the result. It’s a good watch, especially for old ****s like me. The 80’s were great. Everyone in the audience looked about 80 though I’m sure they were probably half that. Few clips of Greavsy’s goals to watch too.

Mike England said he was certain Rush would go on to break all Greaves’ records. He didn’t though did he, the moustachioed bastard.

And yes, Boardman mentions the Germans bombing a chippy and also says ‘it’s a funny old game’ about 5 times.

OMG thanks for finding this! I remember watching this show in the 80s. The format didn’t pick up did it? But I remember the bit about older balls being heavier etc

Two years on.. My childhood hero - R.I.P. JPG
.

I was only 9 when Jimmy joined West Ham so unfortunately I never got to see our legendary forward play. I do recall seeing Jimmy returning to White Hart Lane with the Hammers as it was shown on The Big Match. Of course, Greavsie scored for them and Gilly got both of our goals in the 2-2 draw. At the age of 9, I simply did not understand what an amazing player he had been.

Twenty years later I got to meet him several times as he was often at training with my home town -team,Southend United. Greavsie had an.insurance business by Roots Hall and he'd pop across to talk to.his pal Bobby Moore who.was managing the Shrimpers at the time. His son Danny was also.with Southend at the time.

Later on, I met him when he ran Morbec Farm where my son's junior football team woukd buy all their football kits and equipment from. Finally, my son's team played against a Chelmsford based team in an Essex Cup and Greavsie's grandson was their goalkeeper. Non of the juniors knew who Jimmy Greaves was but all the parents were excited that Jimmy was there to watch his grandson. My son's team.was called Blackgate Gunners (named after an entrance to Shoeburyness Garrison.) Greavsie thoughts the Gunners part of the name was in honour of Arsenal. He laughed as by this time he knew I was Spurs. I told him they named after artillery regiment who.were once based at the garrison during the Napoleonic and Crimean wars. Jimmy was genuinely interested in that fact.

I made sure after the game that all our junior team knew that 'old man' watching was aling with Gerd Muller the best goalscorer Europe ever produced.

I love Harry Kane but let's not forget Jimmy didn't take penalties for Spurs.
Are you comparing goals scored? You could also mention a less stringent off side rule, defenders being able to pass back to a goalkeeper who could pick up the ball, oh and don't forget the state of the pitches!

And defenders in all teams were hatchet men. Their primary purpose being to maim the star players.
