A nightclub owner will shut his doors for the last time after almost 40 years because of the redevelopment of Tottenham.

Tony Walker, of Rudolph’s Club in High Road, has to close down his business so it can be turned into a car park for the new Tottenham Hotspur football stadium.

The 62-year-old is a keen supporter of the Premier League club who own the building but wished it had given him more time to stay open.

He said: “It very sad because I have worked here for 39 and I have a lot of memories here.

“I think it is especially sad for all the spurs supporters because where are they going to go after a game?”

“I feel like I should have been the last man standing and they should have done all the other bits first before them knocked down my building.”

Rudolph’s last day of trade will be on May 19 to coincide with the last game of the season and 25 members of staff will lose their jobs as a result of the closure.

Mr Walker started working for the club as a doorman in 1974 and bought the club in 1990.

He added: “Some of my staff have been working here a very long time and I hope they know that I really did try to stay open for as long as possible.

“I’m really going to miss my football an awful lot especially because so many of the players would come in here for a drink after the games.

“I think my favourite moment was when Spurs won the FA cup final against Nottingham Forest in 1991 because I got the players to bring the cup into the club.”

First Corner Pin, now Rudolph's. I've had many a good time there and it's been my choice of pre match drinks for the last couple of years. Loved seeing a bright white bra under a light black top on the dance floor at 2pm. When the car park is built, I might have a poo where the toilets were, just for old times sake.

So long Rudolph's, your plastic cups annoyed me, as does the man with the big gob who collects the glasses, as well as the flat Panda Cola in the beer garden. That aside, I'll miss you. Looks like either Billy Nic or B&H from now on.

Originally on the site was The White Hart pub where I spent many happy hours, often drinking with 1960s Tottenham players. Ex-boxer Joe Lucy was the manager back then and was a great guy, full of fun and sadly no longer with us. His Lonsdale Belt was proudly displayed behind the bar.

I managed an Enfield band called The Zotts for a while in the late 1960s and they played there a few times. The music was pretty good back then with quite a few local bands playing.

Those really were the days.

Give this man a job at the club. It's guys like this who bring the Tottenham to Tottenham. Man, I wouldn't even mind our new bar to be called Rudolphs. Sod it, why not call it Tony Martins' Club Bar and Lounge, sounds proper badabing! Hehe!

Has turned into a shithole and attracts degenerates... Won't be sad to see the back of it.

Seems a nice guy the owner though.

Shame, had much fun in there for years, even experienced the right fist of Tony walker on the back of my head :D, my fault entirely i might add, by the way he's got a punch like George from Rainbow ;)

Sorry to see it close, it was the bar I went to when I first started going over for games. Havn't been in it much since I discovered the Brick Layers though.

I think there is something particularly heartbreaking to see your business become a car park of all things.

Sticky floor and shit lager but had many a good crack in there. B&H all the way for me until they turn that into a crèche for Jermain Defoes kids. Two Brewers is worth a mention as well.
